ATT or Verizon Wireless

Philadelphia, PA area.

I've had ATT in the past and I was quite happy with it. Then, I dropped them and went with Nextel becuz of the Direct Connect
feature. I hate Nextel with a passion, and my contract will be up next month. I've heard some good things about Verizon, and I
like their phones better than ATT.

Anyone from the Philly area use Verizon?

i'm in trenton, NJ. pretty close to philly. i get out that way quite frequently also.

anyway, I have Verizon and i love the coverage. only a few places where i drop calls and nowhere where i get zero coverage.

Called Nextel and they told me it might be my phone. Could be since I dropped it like 5 times, but then again it makes no sense
as to why one minute i get full coverage and the next minute I get the red light that reads "No Service"

Nextels patent is up on the direct connect. Verizon will be implementing this same feature on their phones in the near future. When I can't get them to pin down a time but last i heard it will be Sept. Oct.

If this is any help.

OMG that will be awesome.

I no longer need DC, but that would be cool for Verizon. I wonder if u can DC someone using Nextel if they're on Verizon.

I'm hooked on sending someone a text messege on their cellphone from AOL Instant Messenger!

Yeah I thought so too.

There was a Verizon rep at my work place about a month ago that told me about it and I have been checking ever since.

A co-worker who used to sell Nextel phones checked with some old contacts of his and verified it. From what he was told Nextel is/was losing money big time on the direct connect feature so they let the patent expire.

If there is anyone associated with Nextel who reads this please feel free to validate or discount my information.

I'd go with verizon since they were ranked top by users in the lower 48 states (read consumer reports)...but they have pretty sh!tty plans..

Yes ... their plans kinda suck. T-Mobile doesnt look so bad, but I've heard rumors that they might tank soon

Verizon. CDMA is the way. TDMA sounds like crap, and AT&T's GSM network is not even on par with T-Mobile yet.

Their current promos make their plans "not so bad," but their upgrade policy is stingy. You're stuck with your phone until 2 months before the contract expires, unless you want to pay "full retail" price, so definitely avoid the two year contract.

My opinion is that they are the best overall, with the best network, and the best customer service, but you do pay for it. For some people, that's just fine.

for me it wasn't much of a choice. i absolutely had to have the best coverage possible and without question in my area that was verizon.

besides i have a high end plan 1000 prime time minutes Unlimited nights and weekends, 2 phones sharing minutes all for like $120.00 / month.

basically, all the high end plans are about the same price so price isn't much of a factor. finally i got the verizon 2 year deal, so in 1 year i'll get $100.00 towards my next phone.

overall i'm very happy with this. well except the time verizon double billed me and i still have a credit with them. oh well, after next months bill we'll be even so, not that big a deal i guess.
