I just got my ATT cable internet service.

I set up a web server(port 8080) and ftp server(2121), neither works.
anybody know if ATT has blocked the ports or request from outside?

in their website, ATT says that they don't allow servers to be put in
their cable network. So I wonder if this is possible to have your own
server.

thanks a lot,

I would hazard a guess that it is not possible.

When you tried to access your server via HTTP, did you specify like so: http://youripaddress:8080

Try other ports, although they probably have someother mechanisim in place that disallows web & ftp server activity, no matter what you choose, even beyond the default ports.

I would say good luck, but it really is against network policy and I do not like it when people try to circumvent network policies.

I know that ATTBI in the MPLS area doesn't do such blocking, not my machines, but I know a guy.... really. FTP, SSH, web, all that and more is open. Probably not the MS SMB protocol ports, like most ISP's.

A little more info on your situation would be helpful... routers or anything of the sort.

Just an FYI before you go any further... like Poontos is guarding against, the cable companies are starting to get a little snippy about these things in some places, so if you do get caught and disconnected, you will only have yourself to blame.

It is up to any one of us to be ?Pro" i.e. have your own Site, or to be a "shelper", i.e. get into trouble with your ISP.

You can get faster connection then your Cable Internet for as little as $3.95 a month.

Example: http://www.3-95.com/

Numerous amounts of people here use this service, and it works fine.

However, you have to know how to do the basic work, for $3.95, you are not going to get tutorial in Web design
