Is it the same format used in MiniDisc?

I guess the question I have to ask is which MiniDisc? Depending on the manufacturer (and also who you ask), ATRAC 's gone through many different revisions for different MiniDisc units. And I think Sony's ATRAC3 is different from Sharp's ATRAC3.
