I'm having a going away party on Friday, and will probably get inundated with many requests for drinks that'll probably exceed what I'm actually capable of--but since this is like a farewell occasion for me, I'd prefer to be upright and be able to remember the night, rather than spend it hunched over a bathroom.

What then, are the best foods that I can have to prepare myself for such an ordeal? I was thinking of getting a 3x3 w/ fries at in-n-out..or maybe a 4x4 or 2 double doubles as my weapon of choice. Should I focus on carbs, fat, fatty farbs (e.g. fries) or what?

Greasy fast food will help you absorb it slower, but remember that the processing of alcohol follows 0th order kinetics... you can only process ethanol at a constant rate.

What works for me is eating heavy food beforehand. (Fast Food works well)

Also, I get major hangovers like you wouldn't believe. After a huge drinking binge, I find that drinking a HUGE amount of water almost prevents them altogether. I cant really be sure since I drink very rarely. (Maybe once or twice a year.)

eat a banana an hour before drinking. Just one though, any more and you tend to get sick in my experience.

Potassium is a co-enzyme to alcohol dehydrogenase that breaks down alcohol. Having the potassium boast right before drinking ensures that you break down the alcohol better. You won't get any less drunk, but you will be more aware of what is going on around you. And there will be a less chance of passing out.

Been doing it for 4 years now, works every time.

Bready stuff helps with absorption, also stuff that's good for you (eg. vegetables or whatever with vitamins) will help your body deal with the toxins.

bread is best I think...lots of carbs like spaghetti, etc. The alcohol will soak into it and take longer to digest.

Some informal studies that I've seen done (I think dateline did it) showed that a steak dinner before drinking was one of the best for slowing alcohol absorbtion.

Another great reason to love steak!

I don't drink more than I can handle (any more), however, I used to find greasy foods combined with alcohol would mess up my stomach. A meal with either a big steak or some nice pork chops and then some veggies (grilled) and potatoes (boiled) will fill you up nicely and help you to maintain composure.

This is true. The best thing you can eat to prepare for a night of drinking is a nice steak dinner with mashed potatoes and bread. The fat and grease help slow absorption of alcohol, the carbs in the bread and potatoes aid in this. Apparently bananas are good, which I didn't know, so finish off the meal with bananas foster (it's delicious, and it's got rum so it'll prep your stomach and liver for alcohol intake).

The most important thing is what you have with you for the morning after. Keep a vat of Gatorade around, and if you're hung over in the morning, make a bloody mary. A bloody mary is the single greatest hangover cure, as it addresses all three reasons a hangover occurs:
Dehydration - The bloody mary is liquid, so that's obvious
Vitamin deficiency - Alcohol sucks up vitamins. A bloody mary is full of vegetables which are vitamin rich.
Alcohol poisoning - Strangely enough, one way to help your body come down from the toxic shock of mild alcohol poisoning is to consume small quantities of alcohol. I guess your body goes through withdrawals after binge drinking, I don't know.

Best of luck!
