The only thing I've ever mixed with Mt. Dew was Southern Comfort, and that was 35 years ago in high school when we bought JD and mixed it in a 2 Liter Coke bottle and the Mt. Dew because the girls liked it.

Was a different time, not something I'd do today.

As far as Scotch goes, a good one I'd drink neat, some with a touch of water or one ice cube that isn't tap water if it's not the good stuff.

As far as blended, still like VO, my grandfather used to like that with a touch of Seagrams Ginger Ale.

If you insist on doing this, skip the whiskey and go straight for the frosting flavored vodka. I'm all for people drinking what appeals to them, but recommending someone drink Scotch mixed with 7-Up is what a high school sophomore does because they have immature tastes and they need to mask their booze with a shitload of sugar. Mixing whiskey with Mt. Dew is like ordering a Filet Mignon very well done; you're destroying a quality ingredient when you would be perfectly happy with something significantly cheaper.

Getting drunk for the sake of getting drunk is NOT immature. It may be foolish, but not childish.

Children throw tantrums for no reason, thats what they do.

Jack Daniels is drinkable but hardly fine spirits. There is nothing wrong with you if all you drink is Jack Daniels.

I love a good Manhattan, which might be why that picture makes me very angry. First off, Crown Royal is WAY too sweet for a Manhattan; it will make it cloying. Use a nice rye, or a rye-heavy bourbon like Buffalo Trace. Second, you would never, ever shake a Manhattan, so that shaker has no place in the picture. Stir it with ice and strain into a cocktail glass. Third, radioactive dyed artificially-flavored bullshit cherries are a heresy against man and God; use a proper Maraschino cherry such as Luxardo, or skip the cherry entirely and employ a lemon twist. It's a really simple drink; following that picture will just lead you to fucking it up.

I like a dry manhattan. Basically, a normal one with dry vermouth instead of sweet. It goes well with sweeter bourbons.

This stuff is amazing. It's got an incredibly smooth, rich and almost butterscotch tone to it without being overly sweet. Easily my favorite "neat" drinking whiskey.

Pendleton 1910 for some reason just doesn't sit right with me, i think it's too sweet and buttery for my taste and lacks some of the typical rye spice. It does however make an excellent Old Fashioned IMO.

Keep an eye out for Lot 40 which I personally think is the best straight drinking Canadian rye that can be found on US shelves. It gives my Van Winkle Family Reserve Rye a run for it's money.

For Bourbon, go to Costco and get a small bottle. You can throw a dart at their selection and be fine. Among their line-up, I like Bulleit, Knob Creek, Woodford Reserve (little pricier) as it's priced fairly and it's very good smooth stuff. Avoid Makers Mark at this competing $40 level versus the other three.

Among Scotch whiskys, the Scots generally like to fuck around with the smoky taste. If you like chewing into a cigar or BBQ taste, you'll like the Scotch drinks. They're generally more expensive per volume versus the bourbons due to the import tax, but worth trying out in small bottles to see if you like it.

BTW, no need to go above 18 years in age with scotch as you pay a shitload more for little to no benefit. Try the legendary rated and competitively priced Lagavulin 16. It's mandatory drinking to say you've tried Lagavulin once in your life.

Macallan is also really highly reputed top shelf stuff WITH the added benefit that they're one of the only ones where you can find little bottles of such a prestigious brand to taste. Go to Bevmo to try out.

If you want to try out another world class scotch, the legendary Ardbeg is worth a try at $60-$70for the Uigeadail...(The 10 Yr. goes for $40). You'll at least know what rolls royce scotch tastes like. Best bang for buck scotch (along with Lagavulin 16). It's actually very tasty as it combines a bbq/smoky taste with a sweet sherry taste. They've mastered this type of more complex "taste" and it's truly exceptionally well done, which is why it's won so many World "Whisky of the Year" scotch awards among the critics.

Good choice for an entry; also works brilliantly in pretty much any whiskey cocktail. An Old Fashioned is a good jumping off place; 2 ounces whiskey, 2 dashes Angostura bitters, 1 barspoon of syrup (or 1 teaspoon fine granulated sugar, preferably dissolved in a small amount of water before adding additional ingredients to the glass so you don't end up with granules in your drink). Stir, add a large ice cube, peel a strip of lemon and squeeze it over the glass to release the oils, drop the peel in the drink and enjoy. Don't add all that orange and cherry nonsense to it; those are additions from the unenlightened time when liquor was illegal and the bathtub moonshine people were drinking had to be masked with every conceivable fruit they could find lest drinkers get an unadulterated taste of the poison they were consuming. Buffalo Trace deserves better than to be hidden; an Old Fashioned should highlight and enhance.

Not the exact way I would make one myself, just went for a stock photo for a Manhattan.
