I want a 15" thin/light laptop in the 600-800 range. Four gigs of RAM should be plenty, and a decent dual-core CPU too. Won't be doing any gaming on it though (got a separate rig for that), so I'll take something that has a stylish design over something with the best video card for example.

I bought a Toshiba recently from Worst Buy for $400. Dual core, 15" widescreen display, Windows7, 3GB RAM. It is pretty slim, very quiet, not the lightest or the sexiest around but it does everything I need it to do and has decent battery life.

For that price, I'd say get the Acer TimelineX(Buy.com link): it's not quite 15.6" but it is 14" - to be quite honest you're going to be stuck w/ the 1366x768 display resolution whether you're getting 11.6"/13.3"/14"/15.6" display sizes, and 15.6" laptops aren't exactly "light" in comparison to other units.

Another recommendation would be the Asus U36SD (Amazon link): it's not exactly 15 inches (it's 13.3") but it sure is thin-and-light.
