ok, i was thinking about getting a cell phone and i need some info/advice from people that own them, particularly on the nextel network.

i managed to find a questionably hot deal:

motorola i90 and i85. nextel sells the i90 for $250 and the i85 for $150. total of $400.

Psychoandy's Hot Deal price: BOTH for $350 out the door.

Now, heres the interesting part. The phones are reposessions and have already been activated. i looked at them friday and gave them a whirl. everything works, long distance, direct connect, etc. they look pretty clean.

To my understanding, the contract is in the debtor's name and nextel has no prepaid services. If he dosent pay up on the service, my phone gets disconnected. Is there any re-activation fee involved if such an event occours?

Is there anything else i should look out for? Any questions i should ask? I'm getting back to the guy on monday so any input is appreciated.

You need to find out how hard it would be to get the phones activated in your name if they decide to default on the bill.

I'd call somewhere local here David, like one of these little places that re-sell Nextel phones.

If Nextel is like other phones:
Pull battery, get GSM #, call Nextel, ask them the same questions.

hmm, alright everyone. thanks for the input.

leave it to me to buy a reposessed phone.... :p

i checked with nextel and all the phones they sell and they say they must be sold with activation and a 12 month contract.

i'm figuring that since the contract is being billed to the deadbeat, i can use the thing fee free until nextel runs out of $ or he stops paying. but that leaves another question: nextel will go after the guy for the $. does that mean if they're successful and do seize assets, i keep getting service for free? or do they cut it off once he misses a payment?
