Rewatched Casablanca on Friday. It's still awesome and hillarious.10/10, masterpiece of masterpieces. WHAT WATCH. TEN WATCH. SUCH MUCH?

Otherwise, rewatched with my woman, my Bro and his fiance on Sat Benjamin Button, it was OK. David Fincher is an interesting director. Fight Club was marvelous beyond description, Seven was very good. Benny Button, I'd say, was more at the level of Panic Room or Alien 3. A decent film, but, not something to cherish through the ages.

Then on Sunday I rewatched The Steel Helmet. Easily 8/10. I love that film. It's gritty as hell. Essentially follows some GI's on the ground from different units finding, setting up, and holding an observation post while getting shot to hell. Really it's all about the characters though (the sarge, the medic, and the kid especially, though baldie and boudahead and the lieutenant all play important roles), the plot is really secondary to the characters.

Ugh, Gone With The Wind is a freaking chore; hate that movie. Casablanca is awesome. Bogart alone makes it worth watching.

It's all about the dialogue. The back and forth banter between the characters. There are some dull moments in the film, yes, but, you have to pay close attention to the dialogue and to each and every word that's said to get much out of this film.

Every time I watch brilliant acting in a TV show (House of Cards, Breaking Bad, etc.), it pisses me off even more how horrible the acting is in The Walking Dead.

I don't know why it would piss you off that a TV show meant to take advantage of an already passing zombie fad doesn't have any real acting talent. The material doesn't allow for more- World War Z had Pitt and it still sucked. Zombie anything is best done as a intentional comedy ("Zombieland") or unintentional comedy ("Dead Alive"). Thanks to the fad the whole genre took itself too seriously ala TMNT.

On topic I rewatched The Wizard last weekend. All I remember as a kid was how awesome SMB3 looked.

As an adult, I think this movie is a perfect time capsule of late 80's kid culture. The movie plot is terrible, but had an element that is unbelievable now (children traveling across the country by themselves). The sound track with the New Kids on the Block and Bring Me an Angel is a trip. Also the game show at the end is reminiscent of the Mark Summers shows like Double Dare with all the screaming girls and braces. Finally the ending with the dinosaurs from Pee Wee Herman's movie caps the cheese 80's feel.

Despite being a long advertisement, anything involving the NES is done poorly (unplugging the controller turns it off, when they leave they leave behind RF adaptor, etc.). But Lucas the child molester makes up for it when he accidentally admits how bad the Powerglove is. Also my wife got a kick out of the nintendo hotline people, I told her about those guys years ago and I guess she kinda didn't believe that was ever a real job.

As a movie and only a movie, it is like a 3 out of 10. But as a time capsule of NES nostalgia, 80's innocence and Fred Savage at his prime this movie is a 9/10. The fact that, like any great video game, this movie has a modern easter egg (try to spot Spiderman) gives it that extra boost.

Yep, definitely all about the dialogue and, for me, Bogart's delivery of it. Great stuff.

I like the part in The Sixth Sense when we learn that Bruce Willis has been dead the whole time.

I also really enjoyed the moment in Se7en when we learn that Gwyneth Paltrow's head is in that box. The anguish in Brad Pitt's face is staggering.

...not to mention when we learn that Brad Pitt in Fight Club is just a figment of Edward Norton's fucked-up head--He IS Tyler Durden.

Also, the beat when Chaz Palmintieri realizes that Kevin Spacey is Kaiser Soze and has been making up his entire story from all the random details found in Palmintieri's office.

epic stuff.

I am very excited.

I ordered Santa Sangre on Bluray.
I saw it back when it was available on netflix streaming a couple of years ago for the first time.

I can't wait to see it again. It's not as bizarre as Holy Mountain or El Topo, but, it's still beyond the level of crazy of other great films like Eraserhead.

I rewatched The Secret of NIMH because I have been getting into the history of animation and it is considered one of the best non-Disney traditionally animated movies.

And holy crap it sucked.

I mean the animation was amazing, and I like how it had some dark parts (what was up with dark children's movies in the 80's?). But as someone who loves the book the movie is based on, I wanted to shoot the crow. Also the deus ex machina of the magic pendent at the end was dumb. I mean, where the hell did the magic come from?

Certainly not the best of Bluth's work. That honor should go to an American Tail, Land Before Time or Titan A.E.

I read the book as a child and then saw the movie and I really agree. From a purely artistic viewpoint, The Secret of NIHM was brilliant, but the story portion was pretty bad. It is probably my favorite Bluth animation, but not my favorite Bluth film as a whole.
