ATOT: Recommend me a good starter bike (motor)

My friend talked me out of buying a sports bike. He says it'd be better for the beginner to buy a road bike first. Especially something used, since chances are I might drop it a couple of times. I got my eye on Bandit 600, especially since 5-6 year old models can be had for around $2000. Anything else I should check out? Keep in mind, I'm a complete novice when it comes to bikes.

get a Honda. got an old 1981 80cc and it hasnt let me down even with parts not intended to go on it.

and it can do 50mph. yeyah😀

Got pics? Of the bike that is 🙂

Talking about bikes (sorta) - I've beenn riding 250hp supercharged jet-ski the whole day today. What an amazing experience! That thing goes 0 to 60 faster than my car!

LOL I was waiting for somebody to pipe up with that...

I hope the OP has the sense to know you're joking though bmacd heh

Seriously though you can't go wrong with pretty much any honda 500 or something like a suzuki SV650, I certainly wouldn't recommend a full on sportsbike so listen to your friend he's got the right idea.

I started on a Ninja (EX) 500. Looks as big as a 600 but weighs a lot less so it's Much easier to handle. I loved that bike and would higly recommend it for a first bike. I got mine used for like $1700 but that was 5+ years ago.

Also, before you buy anything, sign up for a Motorcycle Safety Course. THey teach you everything you need to know AND you get to skip the road test at the DMV if you pass the course. Worth every penny. Check local Tech colleges if you don't know where to find a place offering it.

Yeah, I figured out about the safety course - that's so awesome. Looking for a place to sign up, a lot of them seem to be filled.

Thanks for advice on the bikes, will check them out.
