seems like a nice little automatic-manual camera to me. also, it's a cheap way to try out rangefinders and see what the buzz is. and it probably weighs less than, say, a K1000 or TX. though, the K1000 has the benefit of using every single pentax lens ever made, including the newest ones (nikon's famed compatability is crap compared to pentax's).

I have had one of these for about 20 years.
It still takes great shots (LOVE rangefinders).

I just looked around ebay for these cameras, and it really surprised me how cheap film SLRs are. Spend a couple of hundred on quality lens, and it'll beat any of the kit digital cameras that you buy with more money. Black and white film prints are amazing.

yeah, they really are. digital SLRs do not seem cost effective at the moment. you'd have to shoot a lot of film to make up for the cost increase. though you're likely to shoot more with the digital, how many of those pictures are just throw-away?

that being said, that hasn't stopped me from having a digital P&S and a digital SLR.

I have one of those. Quite old school, but it works.

old school sounds nice. no messing with focus points, choosing file sizes, white balance, hitting this button and that button, waiting for the camera to decide it's focused properly, etc. just the quiet simplicity of a manual rangefinder with an exposure assist needle. it's like vacation.

that and it could probably be used as a hammer in a pinch.
