I need to start thinking about adding more disk space to my NAS, 18TB drives seem to be the best bang for the buck per TB from what I'm finding. It's a lot of money up front though, need to buy at least 4 at once for raid 10 but ideally more. I might just do raid 5 though, and then move my Frigate recordings to it, don't think I really need raid 10 for that.

Might go refirb route too, where did you buy, Ebay or is there a better source?

but these are enterprise drive so for WORM duty they are fine.
I use enterprise HGST drives for my thrash drives. That's what they're best at. Last cluster lasted me ten years. Only one drive of the bunch started having problems. Still purchased three new ones for my current rig. Are your 14TB drives shingled?

nope. There are 16TB and 18TB ones as well and they are newer tech, but still CMR since they use higher energy head to increase density.

ebay. These are enterprise drives, not consumer ones. the 0 hr on claim has to be bullshit but whatever.

It would take more than a day to rebuild a 14TB RAID5 Array. Assuming the thrashing doesn't take another drive with it.

Oh ok yeah was looking ebay too. Thought maybe there was a better source.

Not ready to spend the money now but it's tempting as I could use more space and I do have lot of free bays in my NAS.
