Forest fire near one of the highways into town. Talk about close to comfort! It's very close to a campground too, they are preparing to possibly have to evacuate.

Just realize the 137kv line that feeds one of our substation runs along that highway. There's also a 500kv one not that far off. Things could get fun.

Looks like they just closed the highway.

There's a lake very close by for water bombers to get water from so that's a big advantage. Wind is calm too. Although the last update said it's still not considered under control.

I am not sure if they can continue water bombing at night. Seems to me it would be really hard to do safely as they can't get a good enough view of the lake when coming down, but maybe they can still do it.

I don't know this for a fact, but I have heard that dry pine trees go up like a torch. The land we had in Southern AL had lots of pine with some deciduous varieties. Fortunately, we were able to harvest the trees before we had to sell the land. It wasn't clear-cut though - only trees with more than a 12" diameter. So I guess it was perfect for hunting.

Oh yeah conifer trees burn super well. You put a couple branches in a camp fire and the flames will be like 10 feet high. Burns kind of like gas. I can't even imagine what an entire tree on fire must be like, let alone a forest.

NASA's thermal satellites are picking it up too.
