I have this one solid black feral cat that lives . . . well, that's up for debate. I think he spends most of his time by the garage door that has a direct line to the basement. There's a vent coming off the feed for the main and lower section of the house (another main goes to the "up 3 stairs"). All you have to do is crack that sucker a little and presto, the basement becomes a balmy 60-70F. The garage is substantially colder. Maybe low 60's. But apparently he's fine with that.

Anyway, we have a sort of cat-like, feral understanding. Feral cats don't meow. So I meow to signal the arrival of treats and/or wet food. If I hold up one finger, he takes that to mean go away. I'm not sure how he deduced that and it wasn't my intention, but it's still communication of a sort.

What I don't get is that he still runs away from me. I've been feeding him, his friends and etc. for at least 2 years now. I guess he figures that's how it's supposed to work. Either that or he expects me to play-chase him. Shrug.

It is currently no degrees outside (7 F). I'm worried about the kitties. Fortunately, freezing to death isn't a completely awful way to go. After the shivering subsides, you just sort of fall asleep. Kind of the same thing as slowly boiling a frog or lobster I suppose.

I'm glad I changed the furnace filter today. It's getting quite a workout tonight.

A shot of morphine would be really nice about now. Never actually had morphine. Even declined fentanyl at my first and previous probing. I will NOT do that again. Double negative there. Hehe. Let's see what happens with lorazepam, quetiapine and hydroxyzine. Of course there's also the possible interaction with all of the other chemicals. Oddly, I've discovered that in my particular case, stimulants seem to potentiate the effect of certain compounds that tend to be sedating.

even though the weatherman and tv and many internet news sites are going to warn everyone, a handful of dumb assholes will try to drive on tomorrows icy roads, and they will cause havoc everywhere.

I am horrifically out of shape.
Shoveling 30 feet of sidewalk kicked my ass.
30 ft of wet snow can be a real donkey buster. When my cardiovascular status isn't up to par, I do shovel, shovel rest, repeat. Takes 3 times as long and I worry about the neighbors calling the paramedics, but it works.

I find dancing like a maniac to my fave songs help to buff up my core - which is what you really need for this sort of grunt work.
