I've eaten plenty of MSG way back when.
Great for soups.
It's all about seasoning healthy foods to makes its taste-boosting effects beneficial.
If one wants to access the foods of Sichuan here in the states, the most convenient way to get it is from the ethnic stores where packaged salted radish with salt, spices, and MSG.
Or just buy a bag of msg...
