I still need to fully rebuild my home virtualization setup. Really want to do 2+ boxes with some basic HA or at least just a regular cluster where I can move VMs around. Probably do Proxmox but last I tried it, it felt very primitive. I'm sure it has improved a lot though. Really my whole server setup is somewhat aging compared to what's out there these days. I'm hoping AMD starts putting integrated graphics in their Ryzen CPUs at some point, that's probably the best bang for the buck as far as processing power. Going with something that has ECC is better though but it just jacks the price up like 2x. not so much the ram itself, but the motherboard and cpu. Epyc is just insane expensive, if I do go server grade I'd go Xeon.
I think DDR5 is going to have built in ECC by default though even on desktop stuff, so I am maybe just better off waiting for that platform to come out. It will be a good 3-5 years before buying PC parts makes sense anyway. TSMC needs to build more fabs.
