So pissed. Of course it has to rain on the only days I'm off. Every single freaking time. Suppose to rain tomorrow and day after, and those are the two days I'm off. Then I have to go back to work. I really should have just finished my shed in winter, it's the only time where it's dry. It's just a pain working with gloves and a full coat on.

As a side note my quad port NIC came in today. I want to put it in my file server, as I want to start restructuring my storage setup to be more like a SAN. I already got a dedicated switch that I'll use for storage. Debating on sticking to NFS or doing iSCSI. iSCSI gets more complicated if I want to do live migrations across hosts though as you need a cluster aware file system. I want to eventually get off Vmware and do something like Proxmox. I only have one host at the moment though, so really iSCSI would make more sense, then I can figure out what I want to do if ever I get a secondary host. I don't really NEED HA or live migrations so I could simply not do it and just have LUNs that are dedicated for each host.

What do you mean about the dedicated switch? A dedicated switch for your network?

Dedicated switch for the storage side. Basically VM servers would access storage through that switch and network through another NIC. It splits storage traffic from regular network traffic.

But that is a network. What different networks are you discussing?

  • storage

Just sounds like a LAN to me. Internet would be your WAN. I'm guessing that the quad nic will allow to you to aggregate ports to increase bandwidth. But you're talking isolating access to storage. Something not connected outside of your home LAN.
