Yikes. Wonder if it really was gun shots or not.

TIMMINS - Four police vehicles are blocking access to Gillies Lake as of 11:30 a.m. Saturday morning.

James Mongrain told The Daily Press he saw someone running across Gillies Lake around 10:30 a.m. this morning. The witness claims he heard three shots being fired. Mongrain said the officer used a taser on a suspect, then fired the shots. This has not been confirmed by the Timmins Police Service.

"It was pretty scary," said Mongrain, who added that an ambulance was on scene shortly after.

Bystanders noted that the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs trail L24 was blocked between the Neo Laser Tag parking lot and Highway 655. Police tape was strung up across access to the trail at Neo Laser Tag on Brunette Road.

The official OFSC trail map online shows that portion in red/unavailable, but the rest of the trail is currently available.

The Daily Press will update this story when more information becomes available.

Did absolutely nothing today. Wanted to finish my mining build and just too tired to do anything. Just made another coffee instead. Still trying to revert from night shifts, since I start day shift Monday. Got up at like 11 today which is early for me especially so soon after being on nights.

I had some work up in Plano (read: big drive). Took the wife out for Indian food. Went to the grocery store and got food for the Super Bowl. Wife wants to do nachos. Spent over four hours cleaning. Did baseboards of entire home, the cabinets in the pantry and the kitchen, cleaned the stove top and the outside of the oven, pulled out oven and cleaned the sides and the floor, scrubbed the walls in the kitchen, swept and mopped the kitchen, used the Bissell on my office, cleaned out the Bissell (yuck).

Finally, have been relaxing with the missus. Now, back in the office watching the Bruins/Maple Leafs (GO B's!) on my monitor and having the Wild/Stars on as well. All the while I have been sipping on some Laphroaig scotch. Very good stuff!

Well that escalated quickly. Wonder if it was a suicide. I imagine if there was a murderer on the loose they'd have a bit more info and at very least telling people to stay in their homes.

Wow turns out the guy was shot by police. Nobody knows why yet, but they had to attend a scene where he was at, and he fled, and was later shot in an interaction. Shit is getting real around here... Hopefully this is not a case of police brutality, and that the shooting was actually warranted. I'd hate to see that kind of crap start here.

Some people don't want to be taken into custody.

Not a reason to kill someone though unless they are an immediate threat, at least not here in Canada. I know in the US they do it all the time, if you don't comply with even ridiculous instructions like putting your legs around your neck AND walk towards at the same time, they just shoot you. But that stuff is not accepted here.

So hopefully there was good reason to shoot. The issue is it only takes one incident for cops to realize they can get away with it, then it becomes widespread. The SIU is all over the case now, so we'll see what the outcome is.

I agree with you.
