Are we talking work or home? Permissions? You don't realize how much work you actually put into that to maintenance that. I suspect that you have trouble leaving your work at work. LOL. In the end, what we all have is overkill. We do it because we like to do it. Why? Because we can.

I just have backup images of the OS drive and how I have everything setup. That makes recovery simple. Just restore the image. Like you said, who wants to spend all that time getting everything back to the way you like it. But there has to be a sane limit. You just like to do all that cuz you do it every day. Not that it's necessary in a home. Nobody I know has a setup like mine either. That's why we are here on ATOT discussing our setups.

I guess that's one issue with Linux, the permission system sucks. In Windows you can just set the permission for the root folder and it inherits, but in Linux you can't do that, which sucks. So for file shares to work properly for example the permissions need to be set for each folder. I do have scripts that run nightly to fix all that though, as if I decide to save a file from a different machine and that user's ID does not match it screws up everything. Then anything that's web based needs to be owned by apache etc... so unlike Windows you actually do have to manage permissions to some degree. If there is one flaw in Linux, it's the way it handles permissions, it blows. NTFS is one of the few things Microsoft has done better than Linux.

The Dog's stool is clear of parasites. YEA !
I found out he gets a little nervous when I start dropping 30' to 50' tall trees across the back yard LOL
Cleared 2/3 of them - followed the overhead TV cable back to the rear - and cleared all the vines from over the top of it.
The last 1/3 are close to the power lines , but it's not like I haven't done this before.

The dog could have bought the poo from a healthy dog.

It's always that one stupid thing that ends up taking forever.

Been trying to fish a wire through a hole for the past hour. There's two layers of drywall and it keeps going in the cavity instead of the other hole.

Now here's hoping my electrical does not catch the house on fire. :p TBH I'm surprised these things don't have a slow blow PTC fuse or anything. Probably would not hurt to add one. I guess the transformer by design has current limiting.
