Damn. My mother just passed away. I was expecting it, but it's my last parent. She had been diagnosed with terminal cancer in late December. My sister just called with the news. I will fly out Monday for the Adirondacks. RIP mom. Mama boxes was 76. :(

Oh damn. So sorry to hear. :( No matter how much you expect it, it's still hard to take that kind of news.

I dread the time it will be my parents' turn. But such is life, it will happen one day.

Thanks, my friend. It may be part of life, but that doesn't make it any easier to accept. I've been expecting for this for the last couple of weeks. This time it's different. It's my mom.

Oh for sure. I lost 2 grandmas (one was a great grandma) and aunts and uncles and various people in the past few years I was close to and it was tough, but when it's a parent, that just makes it that much harder.

My parents will help out with phones but if I want more than the base model smartphone I pay it myself. Used to be the cheapest one was free, but now that that's not true I just have to cover however much more the phone I choose is per month.

I'll probably stick with my 6s unless the 7s/8 really is borderless screen. Then I'll probably get the 7s+/8+.

My 13 year old got a Honor 5X when it was amazon day deal. 130. And he is happy as a fish.

I remember bringing my dad's Motorola at school on certain occasions, like if I had to call them to be picked up at a certain time, or something. Thought I was the coolest kid in class rocking a cell phone even if it was not mine. :p

Something like this (may have been that exact one, don't remember for sure)

Lol I actually kind of want that as a cordless phone now.

Or as a "headset" for a cell. Almost worth getting pulled over just to see the cop's reaction when they see what phone you have. lol

Wow. Really sorry for your loss :(. Losing a parent sucks the big one. I know it's life, but it took me three months to get back to 100% after losing my Dad a number of years ago. All the best to you and your family.

Thanks bud. I couldn't figure out why I wasn't more upset last night. Maybe I was being strong for my sister. But I lost it today around 2pm for a couple of hours. Now, I'm back to being myself. Made airline reservations. Just worked out. Unfortunately, my wife is bedridden this afternoon. For those that do not know it she has Stage IV cancer herself. Back on topic, I lost my father 21 years ago at this time. That was rough, but I think my mother was more devastating. Man, I can't wait until the biggest problem I have is deciding which computer part to purchase.

Yep I totally know the feeling. I imagine it's amplified when it's a parent. Sometimes you'll feel fine and accept it, and other times you'll just get triggered by something like an object or just think of something and bawl right out. I find it's like a rollercoaster and it can go on for a while. :(

I don't leave until Monday. There until Saturday. I used to love going up to Montreal when I visited. Lovely city. Wish I was there in the fall when the leaves change color. I'd be out taking pictures everywhere.

So I'm working on an Asus EEE PC for one of my nephews. Basically it's slow and just needs a cleanup. So I backed up all the files, and decided to see if it has a restore function and it does so did that. Saves me from having to hunt for all the drivers etc.

Issue is, it is SLOWWWW even after restore. The HDD is thrashing like crazy just sitting idle. Reminds me of Windows Vista. Even on a decent machine it does that. The issue was not spyware or virus or anything like that. The issue is that this thing only has 1GB of ram, and they put windows 7 on it. That's criminal! ONE GIG! Windows 7 and up barely runs on 4GB, let alone 1. No wonder it was slow and constantly thrashing, it's pretty much running from swap.

This thing should probably have come with XP on it, not 7. So I end up having to do a format and reinstall from scratch after all. :p Think I'm going to put Linux on it instead though. He basically just uses it for web surfing etc so think it will be fine. Really I don't get why a machine like this does not ship with a SSD. This seems like a perfect example of a machine that should have one, it does not even have fans, so by adding a SSD it would pretty much have zero moving parts and be super low energy usage.

I would just add an SSD and some ram. Some years back I took a crappy netbook that was running XP and gave it a clean install of Win7 and it was a lot better.
