UEFI is so weird. Thankfully this laptop lets me disable it. Was giving me issues trying to boot off the virtual cdrom HDD.

Woah 75mm of rain announced. Though it's over the course of several days, so not really that bad I guess. Just started pouring now.

Total rainfall amounts up to 75 mm possible by Thursday evening.

Showers this evening are expected to taper off before morning. However, rain will return Wednesday afternoon and last into Thursday evening and could be heavy at times.

Rainfall amounts tonight and tomorrow are expected to be up to 20 mm with the highest rainfall amounts more likely Wednesday night and Thursday.

This statement will be updated as new information arrives and may be upgraded to a rainfall warning as the event draws nearer.

Been a while since I've done a windows reinstall. Totally forgot about the tedious act of hunting for drivers. Ugh... This is where Linux shines. you install it, and everything just works. Thank God for the linux devs who reverse engineer hardware, even the most obscure stuff found in cheap laptops, so that this can be made possible.

You know that is not true. Linux does not have proper drivers for everything. And Windows does have support for lots of parts out of the box. You like Linux and I think it sucks. You spend all your time trying to figure out how to make it work. With Windows you are productive. With Linux... I'm Linux+ certified and I only do it because it's so prevalent in IT.

It's true that some stuff in Linux can be a royal pain or flaky when it's easier in windows, but I have to say I've rarely ran into a situation where hardware didn't work at all, ex: like the yellow exclamation mark in device manager. Only thing I've had issues with is wireless and printing. I can't get my printer to work properly in Linux, it prints VERY slow, if it prints at all. I had another laptop where I was trying to use the wifi and it would just die out all the time. Other than that though stuff works out of the box such as NICs and sound.

But now in Windows I don't even have hard line network because it can't detect the card and I'm stuck trying to find drivers on the internet and try a bunch of them until one works. There's always like 20 different versions of a given driver too so even if you know the exact hardware it's not guaranteed to work.

Ironically I booted with a live CD so I can backup data to my network server and it picked up the NIC right away but now I can't get it to work in Windows.

Getting some progress with this computer. Found the wireless driver via the FCC Id on the back. Found a potential LAN driver that installed but device fails to start. I'm trying to fix the other yellow exclamation ones to see if it fixes that one. I used to use a program called aida32, searched for it and found aida64 but it's trialware, but it helped me determine some stuff, but it's not as specific as aida32 was as far as model numbers.

What a pain. Once I get this going I'll be sure to make an image of the install.

Yay all the yellow exclamation points are gone and Ethernet works now. But it's weird, when I connect to ethernet it tells me that I'm connected to the guest wireless network (I was connected to it previously as I got that driver working first). But I know it's actually working through ethernet since I can connect to servers that are not accessible through the guest wireless network, and it immediately stops working if I unplug.

Now I need to acronis image this machine but think I'll do that tomorrow as I should go to bed. Actually I still need to install Office and crap first.

Another home depot run done nef. I can only fit one bag of insulation in my car so been going every day to get one. Going to start actually insulating tonight. Have to bring my car to the shop too, will do that when my coffee is done.
