someone needs to make a hoarding thread

I used to maintain a gaming LAN at my house, so keeping all those cables really was useful. I've scaled way back and now can get rid of many of them. I'm going to go through all my boxes and clear out some of the cables I'll never use and then consolidate things like SATA cables, power adapters, etc. into a smaller box.

I understand why I still got the OS/2 book, it was installed on the PC ... 15 yyears ago.
Why the DOS book survived that move is a mystery

The big issue is that it is hard to properly dispose of electronics stuff you no longer want/need. It isn't as if you can just drop them off at the corner electronics recycling store since there aren't any corner electronics recycling places for the most part.

Cables shouldn't be an issue to just throw in the trash, I think.

I believe that is technically illegal. I did that a few years ago but at the time, I wasn't aware that you weren't supposed to do that. So last year, we had a free electronics recycling event at work and I took a bunch of monitors, towers, cards, printers, etc.

Ideally, I'd just sell the stuff on eBay and make a few bucks in the process. I always check the completed listings to see what things sold for previously and if I don't think I can clear at least $5 or $10, I won't waste my time.

Or heck, I'd give the stuff to neffers just for the cost of shipping. I'd rather stuff be used than go into a landfill.

Cables just go in a "junk drawer". It's not full yet. No need to cull it yet.

On one hand, I have just about every computer cable imaginable and that has come in REALLY handy, especially over the past year when I've built 4 or 5 systems. On the other hand, I see that need declining in the future and there are some other things that need to go into my closet but I have no room, so if I clear out the junk or consolidate things like cables into fewer or smaller boxes, I'll have a ton more room.

The corsair force 3 is $5 more I think. That way all my machines will have the same SSD. I don't know why that makes me feel so good. lol

I'm a big fan of supporting companies that do good work. Logitech has done me right, so I try to buy their products. Same with Merrell shoes and Glock guns. Don't feel bad about spending and extra couple bucks on a brand you trust.

I hear you. I'm just not there yet. :) Shelf/closet/drawer space is still manageable.
