Larger capacities are achieved with arrays. I run arrays with as many as 48 enterprise SSDs in RAID0 without any problem. The speed and IOPS would require 100s of U (rack space) of 15k SAS drives, use several kW of power and generate equivalent heat, etc. Not to mention the racket that makes.

Also the SSD is very tolerant of shock, temperature and pressure change and can (affordably) be made submersible!

Um, yeah, but most people don't have your budget. Not even a fraction of your budget, from the sounds of it.
 
Looks like a twin-scroll turbocharger goes for $1700 to $2100 just for the unit itself. Wow, that's pricey. But that'd probably put it into the 250HP range, maybe better.
 
So maybe $3-4k for the entire turbocharging process, another $500 for the exhaust... but yeah, that should go from 143HP on the 1.8L I4 to at least 250HP, hopefully better than that. And that means it goes from 16 lbs/HP to 9.4 lbs/HP (or less).

I know there's a few 2.0L I4 twin scrolls on the market, the Sonata Turbo and the Evo X, that get some 270 HP. The Evo, with heavy tuning, can scream past that level, and the FQ-400 does exist.

So, for a non-factory custom build car, 300 HP would not be unreasonable. That'd be 7.8 lbs/HP. And that's pretty insane territory.

Oh and factor in the reduced engine life of modification (geometric compression ratio increase), clutch wear, drivetrain wear (cv / u joints etc.) Stricter lubrication requirements to prevent bearing coking, etc.

Like water cooling a pc if you hack job it you become a mechanics best friend, a hardware baby sitter or you have to spread that wallet open further than a...

The mechanic for this project would be me, and, for a serious problem, or at least for troubleshooting, my father would probably help out.

Generally not a problem. We still have something of a disconnect here, Ruby. A Miata weighs 2350 lbs, will take two decades to reach 100k miles, has a total runtime of maybe 6000 hours in that 100k miles.

But if the engine blows, it's a small I4, you can find a million of them in junkyards. Clutches, joints, et cetera... all wear points (especially the clutch).

I drive all of 9000 miles per year, well, since I got my G, I'm on track to clear 15k with ease. But given the weather in New England, if I owned this sort of a Miata, it'd be lucky to see 5000 in a year. That's not a lot of mileage for wear and tear.

You're comparing mileage which is like comparing MTBF and what you're doing is the equivalent of running 1.5+ on Nehalem and folding everyday. 😉

I don't have either of those things, I prefer cars. Although every spring, I find myself highly tempted by a sportbike.
 
205/55R16 RS-3, and 225/50R16 RS-3. Staggered, for an RWD vehicle.

It might have some traction issues off the line, but there's nothing wider for 16's it seems.

You like rice? You have it on the islands. Even the 18 wheelers (tractors) have custom spoilers, stereos, musical horns and fart pipes! Yes fart pipes on a big ass Cummins diesel. Some have pinwheelers that make them sound like jet engines!
 
245/45R16, but those are only track and competition DOT tires, which means a few drops of rain will end your day. With the RS-3's, rain is dangerous, but tolerable to get home and bunker down. With those DOT's, I'm not sure you can really go anywhere.

My opinion on the fart pipes is like my opinion on modern "music". There is no language filter but if I tell you like it is, you would not be able to read it. Any of it! :biggrin:
