Yes I was told that causes problems due to SATA 6Gbps signal issues. Even some early 2011 MBPs are having issues with the drive running at 6Gbps in the drive bay for HDD0. This is mainly with the 17s due to the larger chassis dimensions needing a longer cable. The supplied ribbon has no shielding.

I don't use the optical drive much really and I suppose if I needed it I could attach to another device on the LAN that has one or plug a USB drive in, etc.

Surprised they didn't build a card reader in instead of having a cardbus slot.

That's really odd. I had two corsair force 3's running in mine and had no problems. I put my momentus xt in the optical spot and it's not too happy there. 1 out of every 10 times i wake the MBP it'll drop the mechanical drive :\

I'm not complaining though. The (consultant) has had my SR-2 now for over six months and said he would send me a mbp to play with. There were two (!) in the box along with some other goodies. He gave me the hardware to keep for my troubles. :awe:

That's cool. Earlier this semester we almost destroyed two of those machines at work when it rained.

We had them on the football field under a tent ready for an event. Rain moved in too fast and we only had time to grab the cameras.

The MBP's were soaked. But still work to this day. I am surprised. I never thought a macbook pro could take a beating

Haha I have some pictures somewhere of a computer that really took a beating. I mean imagine putting a fully running modern day PC in a large commercial dryer and setting it on tumble for two days. This would be AFTER it was put in the front loading washer, using only seawater for "washing".

The LGA CPU actually (was the only part!) that survived!

That is amazing that the CPU was okay

LGA hold downs protect the CPU much better than ZIF despite the sucky pushpin OEM heatsink which was completely destroyed looking like an aluminum hedgehog that was run over by a Jetta with tireless rims!

So Ruby, enjoying the first snow since Feb '06? How does the ship like snowstorms?

2006 was a blizzard in NYC we headed right into with 90 mph winds. This is windy but is just rain AFAIK.

The ship much prefers warmth but colder weather like this is well within designs of maintaining inside creature comfort.

Hot tubs are great in cold weather but the wind needs to be nearly calm or it's not enjoyable at all.
