@Red Squirrel Thanks a lot. Got me all worried about my molex to SATA power connectors. I swore I got that taken care of in 2015 or so. But... I had a couple of these power disable enterprise drives. They would not power on in my home server. With some research, it turns out that they are power disable models. They are specifically for use in certain server situations. I was well beyond my return window. The work around? Use a molex to SATA power adapter. That would disable one pin on the connector and they would spin up.

Fast forward to your stupid post about molex to SATA power adapters. It's been many years since I researched this. Dammit. Well, it turns out that I'm using molex to SATA power adapters that are problematic. Good grief. It's only for a couple of drives. Now, I need to find better ones or constantly worry about this shit. Thanks squirrel. 🙄

I have been having problems with my network drives being detected on my main rig since I got my home server back up and running. Problem solved. I uplugged all non-working drives. Connected them one by one. Made sure they were shared. Made the drive folder shared to my account personally. Niiiiice.

Ouch! Yeah I really don't understand the science as to why these fail but there's just so many instances of them failing. It's not even the molex end that fails, but the sata end. So I don't understand it really, it just is a thing. I thought maybe the sata standard had some kind of sense line that is bypassed and maybe it delivers too much voltage or something, but I checked the spec and there is no such pin. Something about the molding process of the sata connector, but still does not explain why it's only the adapters that fail and not the factory ones, that use the same molded ends.

I was so tempted to just use one of the cables made for another PSU and just check to make sure the pin out matches but sata cables are kinda hard to probe with the multimeter.

I might have to cannibalize an old hard drive so I can make a tester. Basically need a circuit that detects the voltage and lights up a LED if it's within range. This would allow to repurpose PSU cables on different PSUs by testing that the pin out is correct.

Wow that's a lot of drives lol.

That's actually one thing I kinda miss from Windows is drive letters, in Linux there's no real easy way in the GUI to just see all the drives. Closest is the df command, and have to clear out all the crap that's not real drives.
