It's not the desert. It's not Houston.
When we thought about moving to Texas to improve my job opportunities, and get some relief from arthritis, we were looking at Austin. Houston is a hot house and DFW is way too big of an urban area for our tastes (I've been there on a business trip). Then we thought better of it.

The starlings are back. They've sent out a couple of aerial aerial squadron to things out and the kitties are f'ing useless. I had to go scare them [nef] away - personally. The thing that's irritating is at the very same time, 2 of cats were playing tag just 20 or 30 feet away. I know they have some run-ins with the cats. That's from finding a few dark feathers near the neverending kibble cafe and buffet several months ago. But they seem to give up more easily than the c00nies. I have to go 1337 so the forum software doesn't translate that into something much longer which clearly intended to staunch any hate speech. I'm very happy the software does that but there are innocuous meanings which require more effort on my part. But it's worth it even if annoying.

I sometimes think Texas would be nice, at least politically, but that heat would be a killer for me. If I moved to the states I think I'd do Alaska. No plans to move though, got pretty good land here to develop and the grass is not always greener on the other side.

87° is way unseasonable for Dallas at this time of year. That's more like April/May heat. Sure spring is settling in, but it's quite warm for late Feb. this week. 80s? WtF? Maybe in Houston . . .

Dallas is kind of exposed to the winter cold over there. Cold fronts sliding down from Colorado aren't as buffered by warm moist Gulf air that far west. Dallas has fewer trees and more open land than E. Texas, also flatter and more boring landscape.

They hang gingers in the deep south, right next to the dark skinned ones.

I know that in southern AL there were a lot of people of Irish descent, so you'd be fine there. Mom had red-leaning auburn hair and she was fine. Mine is slightly coppery and I never had a problem. But the heat . . . you'd feel like a snowball stuck up Satan's bunghole.

I started using my little fire pit again. You'd think I'd use it all winter rather than all summer. It uses very high proof alcohol which doesn't burn completely since it gives me a nice yellow flame which I assume means that some of the alcohol is only heated to incandescence. It leaves this lovely trace of a scent that I really love. No intoxication though. Haha.

87F was an aberration. We had rain this morning. It cooled things down. I think it got near 80F today. Beautiful afternoon. Too bad I was at work. Boring is in the eye of the beholder. DFW isn't gorgeous. But it's functional. Winter does slide down here for a week or so every year. Sometimes a couple of times. If you're used to the Midwest or Northeast winters, this will be a welcome change. No more chiseling your car out each morning.

I remember when I first moved down here from up north and found out that I could wear shorts in February. Woo hoo! Up north, I had to have a jacket in the evening on the 4th of July. My mother hated this place. She missed the seasons. Funny thing is she moved to the Adirondacks of upstate New York. They had the opposite problem. They barely had a summer and winter dragged on forever. Two weeks ago ice shut down DFW for a few days. That's it. But soon I won't be able to sleep without air conditioning. LOL

I sometimes wear shorts even here but only indoors with the heater under my desk going. If sun is out I even move the extension cord over to the solar outlet. It's kinda like I'm sitting in the sun, I guess? :p

When I'm working from home I like to occasionally do basic exercises and stretches and what not and it's just so much easier to do that with shorts on.
