funny thing about taxpayers, they are always bitching about how the government should run like private sector but the moment the government does, the public is outraged.

Personally, I don't think there should be any holiday parties sponsored by a company or government entity. Believe me, if my company spends $20 on me at a holiday party, that's $20 I'd rather have in my pocket instead. :D

Since they moved our picnic offsite a couple of years ago, I suspect they might try to have an offsite holiday party at some point as well. They apparently used to throw big, formal parties here too but people simply stopped going so they moved it back to the office.

but giving it to the caterers is a much bigger impact in commercial activities

Sucks to be them if they don't get it, eh? Besides, we have onsite caterers who cater all events in our conference center, which is about to be doubled in size.
