Special weather statement in effect for:

Timmins - Cochrane - Iroquois Falls

Potential snowfall amounts of 10 - 20 cm beginning Monday evening.

A low pressure system is expected to develop near Lake Michigan Tuesday morning and track northeastward across Lake Huron and into Northeastern Ontario by Wednesday morning. This system is expected to generate total snowfall amounts on the order of 10 to 20 cm before it moves into Quebec. The combination of moderate northeasterly winds and heavy snow at times is expected to create poor visibility and winter driving conditions. Consequently motorists should exercise caution when travelling the roads on Tuesday and into Wednesday. The system snow is expect to start Monday evening near sault st Marie and expand into other areas of Northeastern Ontario by Tuesday morning.

Environment Canada will continue to monitor the track of the low pressure system as any change could result in a shifting of the anticipated snow area.

The public is advised to monitor future forecasts and warnings as warnings may be required or extended.

Please monitor the latest forecasts and warnings from Environment Canada at www.weatheroffice.gc.ca.

Why not just use decimeters like the whole framework was designed for.

That is basically 4 to 8 inches which given how cold it is right now I want to fall here right now.

Major winter storm with significant snow amounts for Monday into Tuesday.
A storm system will bring significant snowfall to much of central Minnesota and West Central Wisconsin from Monday into Tuesday. Over 6 inches of snow will fall along and north of a line from Redwood Falls To Mankato to Red Wing in Minnesota, including the Twin Cities metro, through Eau Claire Wisconsin. Even heavier snow will fall along and north of a line from Willmar to the North Twin Cities metro through Rice Lake and Ladysmith Wisconsin. Where 12 to 18 inches are forecast. The high end snow amounts are most likely along Highway 8 in Wisconsin.
The snow will begin early Monday morning in western Minnesota and quickly spread eastward into West Central Wisconsin shortly after daybreak. The snow will be most intense from late morning through mid afternoon on Monday, with 1 to 2 inch per hour snowfall rates, followed by a second surge of moderate to heavy snow Monday evening into early Tuesday morning. For counties in southern Minnesota, the snow may mix with or change to sleet for a time on Monday, creating icy patches on roads. In addition, northeast winds at 15 to 25 mph will develop on Monday and continue Monday night causing some blowing and drifting snow across central Minnesota and west central Wisconsin.
This is the first significant snow storm of the season. Hazardous travel will be the main impact: particularly for the Monday morning and evening commutes, and travelers may want to make alternate plans. Localized power outages are possible as well.
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect from 3 am Monday to noon CST Tuesday.
A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect from 3 am Monday to noon CST Tuesday.

  • Timing: snow will start early Monday morning and continue through Tuesday morning before tapering off Tuesday afternoon. The Heaviest snow will fall in two periods. One from Monday morning through early Monday afternoon with the second from Monday evening into Tuesday morning.
  • Snow accumulation: 8 to 16 inches with the high end amounts in eastern Minnesota to the north of the twin cities.
  • Main impact: travel will be hazardous from early Monday through early Tuesday.
  • Other impacts: Northeast winds from 15 to 25 mph will cause some blowing and drifting. Also, the heavy wet snow may cause small scale power outages and be difficult to shovel.

It's funny, it seems the south gets more snow than us these days.

Though our big storms tend to be around the end of winter. This will be our first "major" snow fall though. The others were only like 1-2cm. We have no more than 3cm on the ground right now.

I'm just glad the rain is freaking over. It was getting ridiculous. Never got a chance to put my winter tires on though. I'll have to bring it in somewhere and get it done. Not really something I want to be doing out in the cold.

We have not got even a millimeter of snow yet but we are getting like 2 to 3 times as much snow as you guys are this weekend.
