Cozumel, Mexico.
The water looks so nice but I have to work. That's OK though as in about 13 hours I'll be skinny dipping in the private pool.

Why should the age matter?
Contactless scanning could be done.
I know this consultant who is a physicist that is working on a scanner that can tell the difference between cough syrup in someone's carry on and a bottle of cough syrup that was emptied out and filled with whiskey! 😱

Unless I'm misjudging the way this would flow, the method requested by my superior would double the number of database queries/reads, and have no upper bound on consumed disk space.

You can get the USB/PS2 bar code scanners and scan the bar codes directly into a database, spreadsheet, app, etc.

We have a couple of bar code scanners, but they're very old and unreliable. The entire system needs an overhaul. The shop guy has the most knowledge and systems access, but he's too busy. The next best choice would be me, but I lack systems access, duration (seasonal employee), and some of the knowledge.

99% of the bottles do not have bar codes on them.

The age doesn't matter, I was just remarking.

That would be an impressive scanner by the consultant.

Contactless scanning, yes, by an IR scanner. Far more financially sensible than high-cost tags on each of the thousands of bottles.
