I was avoiding getting a credit card at all costs while I was in college but it looks like most utilities ill need when i move out (Satellite, cable internet, etc..) are most likely gonna need credit cards. I understand how credit cards work, but don't really get what all the terminology means. So whats the best credit card for a student? I won't be making any real big purchases on it, probably just use it to pay bills and build credit. Thanks for the help.

Just get a visa logo checking card that lets vendors take them as credit cards. Also get a secured cc to start building credit and finally move on to a real cc.

You can get by without getting a credit card. My cable, tv, electricity, etc. don't require me to have a credit card. You could write checks, assuming you've got a checking account. ;)

Yeh, i have a checking account, but i was looking at DirectTV and it said "Credit card required". So could I use my debit card? I've used my debit card before when it says only credit cards and it worked fine, i just didnt know how it worked with year contracts like with DirectTV.

As long as your debit card has a Visa or Mastercard logo it will work just like a credit card. Also, you could check out Creditcards.com. They recommend cards based on your search criteria.

If you have self-control, credit cards are good. They help build your credit score, give you cash back, and cost nothing if you do it correctly.

If you're still a student, you should be able to get a card no problem.
