I need vacation ideas, We're craving craving somewhere natural & truly exotic. We're not feeling too hot about big cities, looking for quaint towns &

1. Iceland is currently on our top list- volcanic landscape, natural spa, & aurora borealis

2. Italy & Greece, but not major metropolises- the likes of Cinque Terre, Santorini, & Florence are attractive. Where else?

3. Asia is too far and unlikely this time unless there is an excellent recommendation.

Planning for September/October for 5-6 nights.

Also I've always wanted to visit Hallstatt. But I wonder if there's enough to do or it's too far logistic-wise.

Can the mods give you a vacation while you're away on vacation? That would discourage the temptation to post on AT when you should be enjoying life somewhere.

Iceland,

Friend of mine goes in that time frame every year, its absolutely amazing. and IIRC you live on the east coast and its cheap as shit to get there

I wouldn't waste my time going to Europe for only 5 or 6 nights to be honest. I usually set aside 9/10 nights minimum. If you're set on only 5 or 6 days, you pretty much should stick to a major city/town and then take day trips outside of it.

We're planning a trip to Germany and Austria in the Sept/October timeframe and we're going for two full weeks.

We're hopefully going to Iceland in April so I agree that that seems like a good bet

I've heard excellent things about Dubrovnik and the surrounding areas and small towns. Seems like its just beginning to become a big tourist destination so if it seems interesting you might want to go before everyone else starts going

If you wanted Iceland air offers a free 'stopover' in iceland on your way to Europe. Doesn't look like they go to greece or italy but you might be able to go somewhere else in Europe. For nature and quaint towns I think you'd like Ireland or Scotland and Glasgow is is offered as a 2 hour flight from Iceland. Tons of quaint towns to visit and pretty much nothing but beautiful scenery. You'd want to rent a car though so if you don't want to drive it may not be the best idea

View from B&B room in the small town of Portree

Lots of historical sites in beautiful scenery as well

Do you have gchat? I'd love to chat more. You have PM. Also tell me more about this free stopover thing.

Exterous & Anubis, y'all mofos have PM. 🙂

1. Where does he like to go and what does he do?

2. What are his recommendations for things to do (MUST DOs, truly exotic stuff/views).

3. Is Sept the best time to go? Why?

4. Places to stay/eat/do, etc...

5. We're pretty 'go getters', should we rent a car and do stuff ourselves or do a tour/package? If tour, what do you recommend?

Iceland is nice, I went there last year. If you're thinking about a particular tour or destination I'll be glad to give you my feedback (if I did it myself that is). Will gladly post some photos if you wanted a sneak preview of anything as well.
