Lately I've been a mellow kick and have been listening to a lot of stuff like Matt Nathanson, Jack Johnson, and even a little bit of Howie Day and John Mayer. Say what you will, but it's good to chill every now and then. Since I'm more of a metalhead than a typical rock'n'roller, I'm looking for some recommendations for good old rock stuff along the lines of what I mentioned or what might be featured in those damn cliche college-type movies like the American Pies. Basically I'm just looking for some stuff to play while crusiing around singing along or something. I'm open to anyhing really. So, any recommendations? :D

BTW, Here's what I have so far

Are you into Porcupine Tree at all? I'm sure you've at least heard of them because of Opeth.

Yeah I have some of their songs. About a dozen or so. I really really like Wedding Nails (that riff just slays me) but I have to be in the right mood for the rest of their stuff. It is quite good though; I should pick up In Absentia sometime.

Cranberries, good suggestion. I remember hearing their songs on the radio and liking them a lot.

Ooh, there's a good one. I've never listened to them. Are they the ones whose CD is titled Deloused in the Comatorium? I've been meaning to check them out for a while.

Yes that is their first LP... they are really one of the only bands out there making true progressive and innovative music anymore. Fvcking excellent CD. Their newest "Frances The Mute" is also amazing.

You have Rhapsody, but no Luca Turelli?!?!??!
(Luca Turelli is the lead person of Rhapsody, and did some stuff on his own)

You have Edguy but not Avantasia?!?!
(Avantasia is a project done by Edguy front man Tobias Sammet with some other well respected musicians - Avantasia - The Metal Opera (parts 1 and 2))

Dunno if it's your kind of music but Sunny Day Real Estate is pretty great too, didn't see them in your list.

They pretty much started the genre known now as 'emo' but they don't sound like any of that whiney trash that gets labled emo now. Jeremy's voice takes a bit to get used to but their guitarscapes are pretty epic for their time. I recommend the album 'How It Feels To Be Something On, or The Rising Tide' however 'Diary' is my favorite of theirs.

I also see a disturbing lack of Radiohead and Portishead ;)

There's a reason for that. :p I know them well and decided they had no place on my hard drive :)

Tourniquet is one of the best metal bands I've ever heard. I love their song When The Love is Right, although it's tainted now... bah.
