Here are the details:

We have a team of about 12 people that are in charge of planning an offsite. We are an engineering firm, but have many business people involved as well. Typically it comes down to a business topic and there is a competition between teams that have deliverables.

We are working off the idea of upgraded humvees. There is a proposal, marketing and even building. Obviously, we wont be building a realy humve, but something from lego mind storms or something.

I am looking for innovative ways to get the engineers and business people to work together in their specialties. I dont want it to be too engineering based. Winning idea will get a prize. it will be the giveaway that all the participants get at the offsite.

Thanks!

Why don't you take everybody out to a club, that way the engineers will at least get to see some actions and try their hands at "business proposals"?

Team them up and let them figure out from an elaborate puzzle on figuring out which club to meet. You come up with the puzzle.

i hate that kind of crap
"team building" sucks

just have a big group hug and go eat some expensive rib eye steaks if you want them to be happy they work for you

Go shooting. At a place where you can rent automatic rifles. Even if a person hates guns, I guarantee they will GIGGLE when put behind an auto.

its not really team building...Its more of a competition. All of the participants have only 1-5 years of experience.

Why not do something fun instead? Everybody hates those offsites where they force people to do stupid crap, and no offense it sounds like that is exactly what you're planning.

Have beer, have sports and games and everybody will have a great time. Beer has an amazing ability to get people to have fun together. Setup a football skills competition or something.

because executives will be there and people actually spend the whole weekend there in cabins. It is almost like a retreat. It culminates in a final working project that they present to executives. Alcohol is not allowed there due to the fact that it is Maryland public school property...
