ATOT guide my hand. Shall I be merciful or vengeful?

Decide the fate of the rabbits

  • Go forth Lord of War, Ares will tolerate no less

  • Stand down protector of all, Eirene demands it

  • Judgement withheld

So here is my situation. We have 2 small dogs which I let outside on occasion. Well, we have 2 rabbits which have decided to call out place home. Thats all and good but more than once I've seen nothing but asses as bunnies and dogs took off across fields.

Now the solution I've used in the past has been to peek out and make sure the rabbits arent in the front lawn before letting the dogs out. It generally works but sometimes if its dark I will miss seeing them or if they are off to the side and I wont know it till ZIP off go the rabbits and dogs. The last time the wife came into my shower and said the dogs ran off and she was out in the dark with a flashlight looking.

The bigger problem here isnt dogs chasing rabbits, its if we dont find the dogs they could potentially end up as coyote snacks.

So I turn to ATOT to decide the fate of the rabbits. Should I quickly and painlessly extract 55 grains of vengeance on the rabbits, or should I be merciful and let the rabbits live and just try to keep the dogs from chasing them?

Are rabbits in season? We wouldn't want to tell you to do anything illegal.

sounds like the dogs chasing the rabbits IS the big issue. they need to be trained not to chase them.

I've been out coyote hunting once this year, plan on going out this weekend too. I have to check into the legalities of using NVD's for hunting. Either way I'm going to keep an eye out for a place to set a trap or two as well.

don't you have a back yard?

or a fence?

No fence. Mind you my closest neighbor is a mile away, so no fences and we have a side door and front door, but the dogs could see the rabbits from either door they go out.

That rabbit is about the size of our dogs. Yorkshire Terriers. Its a bit of a losing race with the smaller one and a damn good race with the larger one. Funny thing is the larger one doesnt know what to do with them once she catches them so she just keeps chasing.

Terriers can be fun. The thing I don't like about little dogs is all their yapping...other than that they are fun.

Actually, in that picture, he just played too hard and ended up killing it...he likes the chase more than the kill, but that didn't stop him from gnawing on the rabbit's leg when he realized it was dead. :D

I can only endorse this if you update the thread with a series of pictures in which you prepare the rabbits for dinner. waste not, and all that.

we have rabbits around our house also, our dog tried to sniff them out, but he never sees them unless they hop right in front of his face

No matter how hard you try, you'll never end the rabbit population in your area. Better idea is to train your dog.

Coyotes gotta eat too.

Leave the rabbit alone. And, put up a fence because someday your dog/s will be Coyotes food.

Rabbit. Yummy.

I voted mercy, but I'm against killing animals just to kill them. If you're gonna eat them, shooting's a reasonable course of action. I've never had bunny, but I bet it's tasty.

Catch the rabbits and release them somewhere else?

If not, kill them, and eat them if you wish.
