ATOT Grammar problems

Someone started a thread about cursing the other day, and I thought there was one problem that was more prevalent: bad grammar.

I don't know if anyone else notices, but people in these forums CONSTANTLY misspell words. Most common are your and you're; there, they're, and their; and (the absolute WORST) to and too. I understand that some people just aren't that good at grammar, but we're in a message board where typing and reading are essential skills. Plus, people generally seem to be intelligent in here.

Does this bother anyone else? Is there anyone else in here that has an undeniable urge to correct people every time they make these obvious mistakes?

leave them alone their just not paying that much attention and your paying too much..

As long as I see their point, no it does not bother me. These are "quick replies" and such tedious checking is not really necessary when the point is made.
 
Their our many reposts about this vary topic. The problem is, most of these people could care less about grammer and mispelling.

Yeah, but I don't type the wrong things in the first place. Why do they?
 
You think this is limited to ATOT? It is the language of the internet. Learn to type words as fast as you can. who needs punctionation capitolization or even worrying if you spelled the word properly. Can the person read your message? Well then thats all that matters.

Because this isn't the professional work world and you are not their professor.
 
I find this phenomenon frustrating myself. I don't think the fast-paced nature of the Internet is any excuse for incorrectly using "there," "they're, and "their" - this is just a question of ignorance. I can't see why any point worth posting is not worth posting with a reasonable degree of care.

I agreed, wholeheartedly.

If especially annoys me when people drop letters in really short words because they are just too lazy.

'u' != you

'd' != the

there are a lot more (these are just ones that happen to be on my mind at the moment).

I'd say laziness over ignorance. Everyone confuses a homophone now and then, but very few actually edit them. Then again, the metric of social relevance on the Internet is almost always geared toward post count rather than signal-to-noise.

Maybe we can make the Grammar forum and the non-grammar forum, and the mods determine who goes where (we can have a little test).
Then it's all sorted.

I agree that the problem is widespread, but it's just propagating ignorance.

True true. I admit I am persistently finicky about such matters, and routinely edit my posts to correct for typos and the like. I may be guilty of taking things too seriously, but I get annoyed by the abuse of the language.
