ATOT For Sale/Traders - would you make this deal?

Looking for more RAM for a friend's computer, he's clueless so I told him I'd get him some more RAM and a new video card and he could pay me back. I found someone on here selling the RAM I wanted, sent them a payment (less than $50, non-CC PayPal). Explained that I would like it shipped directly to my friend (we live in different cities). The seller refused the deal, saying he wasn't protected because it's not a confirmed address. I've been a member for 4-1/2 years, I have 40 heat, all postive.

If you were the seller, what would you do?

I probably would do it, but no matter what the consensus is here in ATOT, it doesn't mean anything. The seller has every right to refuse to deal with you if he doesn't trust you. So if I were you, I'd look elsewhere for RAM or make different arrangements with your friend and have the RAM shipped directly to you.

Tell the seller you'll vouch and take ALL responsibility for your friend even if your friend sends the seller a bomb in return.

I would ship to your friend, but he is the seller...he can do what he wants.
It's a free country, clearly he can do whatever he wants. I just can't imagine being this scared over a relatively small-dollar with very little risk.

$50 is $50 man. There are some serious trolls out there. I trust no one.

I said it was less than $50. What's the expectation here - that someone hacked into my AT account, my e-mail account and my PayPal account, and is going to go completely crazy and buy 1 stick of 2-year-old RAM?

I dunno, If I had been trolled in the past...Id probably be scared. Besides, he may have gotten several offers and feels why take a risk when someone else will buy with my terms for the same amount of money.

if you think it's that insignificant, then tell the seller that you won't hold him responsible if the ram is lost, damaged, or DOA. i'm sure he'd be willing to ship then.

main point is that you're the one with the heat, not your friend. imagine if your friend unintentionally kills the ram, he tells you it's not working, then you tell the seller, yada yada yada and all that jazz. i sure as hell wouldn't want to take that chance unless the buyer released me of all responsibility of the ram once shipped.

there was a guy posting pr0n on the OT forum a few days ago. his account was almost definitely hacked.

if the seller thought you were'nt legit and it smelled fishy because yuor account was possibly hacked, it is entirely possible. cut the seller some slack, ship it to yourself and then give ti to your friend.

I doubt that I would do it. If the ram was priced well, I'm sure he had offers he could take that didn't mean losing his paypal protection.

For a newbie, no way. For you, sure, with the heat and the years, I doubt this would be your 'last score' troll before disapearing 😉

We're not talking Ebay here.
The Trade forum is mostly based on Heatwares and the guy has 40.
What is the seller worrying about ??? Hes sending $50 worth of rams and his side of the deal is done.

Good point. Your friend could shock the RAM, overvolt, overclock, put in a bad motherboard and blame the seller.

We'd not expect you to do any of that, but who knows about your friend?

My brother has several horror stories of eBay buyers claiming used audio gear was not working because they refused to RTFM.

Roadraider.

As far as the OP, I woudn't do it either. I only ship to confirmed Paypal addresses. It's not unreasonable.

Bingo. I was one of the ones who "dealt" with Roadraider.
