I think what it amounts to is that engineers are so preoccupied with...well, "engineering", that they tend to forgo less important things - like people's names 😛

Yea, I'm terrible with that ... somebody will tell me their name, and it goes in one ear and out the other. 30 seconds later, it's gone.
That was one convenient bit about the military ... hmmm, two bars, nametag says smith... "Hello Capt. Smith" 🙂
 
I work in IT, and I share the same first name with the President of the company, so EVERYONE remembers my name... but I can't remember anyone elses... I feel bad. Oh well... 😀

Yeah, same here. It's bizzare: I can't remember names from one day to the next, but I can bring up the IP of some guy who tried to pingflood me a year ago.
