I have a little something to do with this :)

If you like Tetris, or gaming documentaries, give it a shot! Views & high ratings could help get it out there in the 'trending' section helping the film a bit. A lot of my friends helped produce/direct/edit/etc. in this movie.

Let me know if you enjoyed it! It's only 90 minutes or so. If you live in or around Portland, you may even have met some of these people, also Los Angeles seemed to have a good number of Tetris talents as well that factor into the movie.

Thanks!

Edit, as a longtime ATOT guy, someone else has another current ATOT effect going, check it out here (takes like 5 seconds if you have FB installed/logged in) :

what no hookups for an ad free version? :p

Heheh I wish! I think there are ways to ignore them though. Hopefully the Netflix release will be in the wings at some point soonish.

At least it's free ;)

I wonder if Hulu Plus version is ad-free? I have no idea how that works.

Watching it now and typing during commercial breaks. I'm about half-way. Anyway, I never considered myself a pro and didn't even own the game until the mid-'90s but I discovered all of the techniques discussed so far on my own. I can't believe pro players didn't know and use directional flipping! That "T-flip" should be something a basic player discovers early out of frustrated desire to fill a tight spot alone. Vibrating to move faster than holding a direction is something that came naturally to me from other games (especially Tetris Attack). Tetris Attack was so easy to max out the score (99,999) that my brother started trying to do it faster and faster until he was able to do it in a matter of minutes, but Pokemon Puzzle League (same game on N64) had a max of 999,999 and he always got bored... until Nintendo Power had a high-score challenge in 3D mode (much easier to max with more pieces). He maxed the score in both 3D and 2D modes and submitted it only to see the Power Player's Arena pulled from the pages in the very next issue with a never-fufilled promise by Nintendo to post the results online. Thinking about it still makes me mad. Yes, we did record a video and sent it to them, but it's something he could do again any day of the week.

I recall Julie Carroll in Newnan, GA being able to play without dying on the original Game Boy Tetris forever (plays for hours after the game doesn't get any faster/harder), but it simply must not have the same play control as the NES version. Of course, anyone can play Tetris DX forever due to a play control quirk where you could actually make pieces rise, but I used the save state features and the playing against your own stats stuff to really hone my skills at seeking Tetrises by making a profile with near perfect stats and playing against it daily. It also allowed some even tighter flips than NES Tetris. It was great strategy practice.

I've definitely had trouble sleeping or driving when I get in the zone like I see referenced at the beginning. I just keep seeing blocks, matches, moves, combos/chains (in the case of Tetris Attack), possibilities, etc and my mind races with them.

Wow, what a great movie. I really liked King of Kong and I love Tetris, so this is the best.

Now I really want to buy an NES...

Hulu Plus has the same ads as free Hulu. Hulu Plus just gets you access to more content and enables you to watch it on non-web devices (e.g. xbox, ps3, etc).

Ah, that seems strange. Seems like they would compensate a little by reducing the ads, but I guess their contracts are based on that structure.

I enjoyed it. Arkaign is a boss, did not expect the end.
FTFY. Use his AT username. ;) I don't call Ichinisan "Evans" on these forums just because I happen to know his name.

So the only hot girl in this is lesbian?? Must be some sort of sick joke by the Tetris Gods
I didn't like how the camera spent a disproportionate amount of time watching the couple kiss, hug, hold hands, etc even when that part wasn't about them (narrator often talking about something else) and didn't similarly dwell on the straight couples. Seemed a little blatantly obvious that it was undue attention. They even mentioned that she was getting all the press before the competition/documentary. It shouldn't be any more of a spectacle than the straight couples and if the couple were making it more of a spectacle deliberately by showing more PDA than the others then the editors should ignore it instead of playing right into it.

Oh, and after finishing it, "Tetris Effect" is what the Panel de Pon community calls "chain brain." ;)

Dreams or mild hallucinations where your mind races and you see matches and combinations.
