Tell her that beaver hides are valuable and that the castor musk can attract a live beaver. What were you looking to trade for? This time, suggest some other road-kill that you "might" trade for.
"I thought it was just resting but I think you are right and it is dead because he is still there. Even so, the hides can fetch quite a bit and the castor musk could attract a real live beaver. My loss is your gain: I just don't like having a smelly beaver by the road and would prefer to replace it with a cat or a rabbit. If you insist on a live beaver, perhaps we can make a deal and then you can then trade him for a live beaver with someone reluctant to to kill and deliver a nuisance beaver? I am desperate to salvage this deal."
