:(:(:(UPDATE: I'm going to talk to the fiance and go offline (dial up). Updates tommorrow...:(:(:(

I'm probably over reacting but ... here's the deal.

Dog is a Japanese Chin. One year old and weighs 7-8 pounds. He jumped over a door fence in the house, maybe two feet high. He does this all the time. This time he must have slipped and landed on his jaw/chest. His jaw is OK. I checked that. I applied light pressure on his rib cage and he seems OK there. his diaphram seems OK to, my fiance massaged it and he appeared to be fine. BUT! When you try to pick him up, he is in obvious pain when you support him by the chest area. His own weight hurts him.

The good news is he hasn't puked blood and even managed to bark at the neighbor.

The bad news is he keeps sitting by the door to go outside. He never does this! He always pees on his pee pee pads. Then my fiance goes, don't let him out, dogs only go outside to die. That normally wouldn't bother me, but he is acting oddly interesting in going outside.

What is going on??? My guess is a bruised rib or a pulled muscle. I can't tell!!! My fear is that he might be dieing.

Also, he won't stay in the bedroom with the fiance. He wants to get outside very badly. This is unlike him.

The falling incident happened at the fiance's parents house. The dog did sleep for a bit on the drive home (40 minutes or so).

Any help is appreciated!!!!!

If you are concerned, take your dog to the vet. One of the obligations of pet ownership is to make sure your animal is well and feeling good. Any answers you get here contrary to what I have given might prolong the pain your dog is experiencing.

Well, all I can tell you is that "dogs going outside to die" is a lie...dogs die where ever the hell they want...

Other than that, take it to a vet. Good luck.

Damn right, dogs go outside cause there ANIMALS, animals live outside. He wants fresh air. if he's not wheezing when he breaths, isn't puking pooping, or peeing blood he should be alright. but if you really car about him and have the money take him to the vet and have him x-rayed. he might not have broken any bones, but he could have internal injuries.

If the dog is in pain, it probaly wants to go be alpone and "lick it's wounds" so to speak. Dogs are very resilent creatures and it will more than likely be fine.

If it were me I would call the vet and inform him of the situation and ask his advice on whether it would be OK to wait, and bring the dog to the dog in after a day or so if he doesnt act better, or if he thinks it is an emergency.

sounds like a cracked rib to me. you shouldn't have to even discuss taking it to the vet. if it's hurt, you should take it. however, if it's a rib, i doubt there's anything they can do. but you should take so they can make sure he hasn't punctured anything with it.

my cat broke it's leg about a year ago, it was pretty scary. expensive too, cause i had to take him to the emergancy vet hospital. but you have to do these things when you have animals. they can be expensive.

Humans are animals too. I know enough pets who rather stay inside, and enough people who like being outside.
