for those of you who don't have facebook or twitter, would it hurt you any to create a fake account?

I had a facebook account yeeaaars ago. Deleted it down range. Know why? Lost some buddies, posted about it. Something along the lines of: "Man, rough week out here, would love to get some messages from you guys if you have the time, I'm heading back out again for about a week or so so I'll talk to you when I get back."

Come back a week later to 3 likes (I had I think 87 friends, mostly family), and no comments or messages.

That same day though a distant cousin of mine posted a photo of a slurpee. 8 comments and dozens of likes. I literally deleted my account right then and there.

I told everyone in my family and my friends that if they truly want to remain in contact with me they can call me. I raged at my mom about a week ago for posting a "happy birthday" for my son on facebook, but didn't call him. Not a single person in my whole family called their grandson/nephew on his fucking birthday, but they all posted something on facebook. But my wife's family called. Every single one of them.

So you know what. Fuck you facebook and social media. But then again I don't even know if I should be mad at the social media itself, or the fucking douchetards that traded their soul in for it. Life is short, and if mother fuckers wanna sit there and post shit on facebook like that's the best way to communicate with someone they love them forget them. I'm done.

So no, I'm not going to make a fucking social media account just to post something for fucking PTSD.

Oh and by the way, if you want to cry to me about PTSD you're talking to the wrong fucking person. Tell me about how hard your fucking life was sitting on the FOB drinking fuckin green beans and working shifts. If you truly have it I'll know, and I'll help you.

I've had similar experiences on Facebook. That doesn't mean I am gonna cry about it and quit my account.

I post important news articles about our government or health related things, like how close we are to a cure for cancers, yet hardly anyone likes them. But, I post a stupid video or something else that doesn't make a difference about our future and tons of comments and likes.

Go figure.

The thing about PTSD is that it can be dangerous, not just to the person who has it, but the innocent civilians who may end up dead because of it.

Either to make it easier to share on social media or to help Facebook know what kinds of things you're interested in so they could run better ads on your news feed, or both. Either way, it's such a minor non-annoyance for me.

which is a huge no-no for me.

anyway, good luck to you and your friend and the cause.

yes, absolutely, and you have no fucking business thinking anyone should want or need to do that.

ever.

anyway, good luck again. If this group had a legit way to donate or respond, then well, there you go.

22 Needs a Face donation link.

Or if you that or SoldierFit isn't your thing, the Wounded Warrior Program also makes an effort against PTSD, among other things, and they'll gladly take donations as well.

...for those of us who have money to throw at things, but neither have nor want Facebook, Twitter, etc.

The wounded warrior program I think is a sham. They throw celebs on TV and crap and then they wouldn't even take money from a church! I would go with The Fisher House.

For anyone who donates to charity, check out www.charitynavigator.com

Wiki says:
"In 2013, a new employee mistakenly declined to accept a donation from Liberty Baptist Church in Fort Pierce, Florida...
Shortly after the church received this letter, a WWP spokesperson apologized and said that it was a miscommunication."

Hmm...

Next idea was to give to the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. I've done some work on some non-medical electronic systems at that site.
So many injuries from IEDs... :(
They don't seem to have any online way of donating though - it's either a mailed form, or else emailing someone to ask for instructions. Huh.

the most important thing is to try and get some legislation to make an effect. so far, veterans benefits are so underfunded, it's incredible it isn't criminal. we keep throwing money at the military, for some strange reason, yet we do nothing to take care of these men and women once they're no longer in combat.

treating ptsd is one thing, but making it easier to access the care and funding legislation to ensure adequate care and easy access to care is another.

We have a habit in the US of either trying to ignore problems until they go away, or locking them away and then hope they go away.
"Hands over ears, lalalala, walking away...ok, is it fixed yet?"

"We've tried nothin' man, and we're all out of ideas!"

What a tool.

eat my dick. i don't give a fuck what you think. thanks :D

and, frankly, i'll bump if i see fit. it's a worthy cause. i wasn't bumping excessively, so whatever.

i highly doubt my activity in this thread is causing anyone any harm or is violating the rules in any significant or illegal way. trying to raise awareness of a real problem that affects the lives of real people isn't something i'm going to back down from simply because some moderator got annoyed.
