My wife's family is Protestant and they participate in Lent. I'm a heathan so I don't really care. I guess my wife is giving up any hope of me going to heaven with her when I die.

To be honest, I'm still not entirely sure. :/ Last year it was carbonated drinks, but I'm not sure this year. It kind of snuck up on me, and here I am already drinking a coke. To be honest, since I'm a Catholic from Mobile living elsewhere, it doesn't really feel like lent yet. Usually the whole Mardi Gras thing kinda prepares you as to it coming, kinda like thanksgiving leftovers does for Christmas...hehe.

I still need to make a decision. There's always the internet... :p

I'm a christian and I don't do/participate/honor/whatever lent. You sure you don't mean Catholics?

I was under the impression that it is a stricly catholic tradition as well. Ive never known a protestant to even so much as mention it.

This is correct AFAIK...But don't they follow the same Christ in teaching? :)

I'm not aware of Christ telling his followers to give things up for lent, so maybe its a different one.

He didn't, it's just a tradition made up by some people who say it's important. Which is what a religion is, thinking you can do your best and you'll reach heaven/enlightenment/etc.

Basically what I was implying. Religion is man made, pick the one that appeals to you...if any...Ok, no more thread crapping. I'll give that up!
