New cherry cabinets, plywood carcass, going in the kitchen. The house was built in 1937 so the floors aren't level. The installers have shimmed the front of the cabinets about every 3 feet. Good enough to not sag over the next 30 years or should I put in more? Concerned about the granite cracking in the long run.

Thought this would be about ATOT posters who are in Obama's circle of advisors.

Cabinets are small, framed structures, so what you'd be worried about is the cabinets changing position relative to each other. I think I would want to see good support under the join between each pair, and I guess the parts in between wouldn't matter much. Three feet sounds like its too wide an interval to meet that standard, though, unless you've got really wide cabinets.

This is an interesting dilemna. You want to make sure the cabinets don't sag in the future. Because if they sag too much, the granite countertop will eventually crack.

However, your 76 year old house has sagged floors. Unless you do something to shore up the floor, it will sag. So regardless of how well you balance and even out the weight of the cabinets to the floor, the floor will be an issue.

Nevermind, not that interesting of an issue. Markbnj is right. Make sure the cabinets are well attached to each other. If you find the counter tilted in the future, detach from wall, and rebalance/shim.
