ATOT Awards

I was just thinking that maybe, once a year, we could have a award ceremony for ATOT members. We could have things like "oldest member award", "most helpful person award", "biggest news of the year", and the coveted "funniest member" (these are just what immediately came to mind). A week beforehand, we could pick the categories by poll, and people can start making nominations. We could include some categories for the other sections, but ATOT will get the lion's share as it's the most active.

things *similar* to this have been done before and it just turns into a popularity contest, and that is not a good thing.

It would be better to have weekly mod-posted stats, similar to what they do on VNBoards for anyone who has ever visited them.

just think...popularity in an internet forum

i like the awards which recognize things but not members. like /0 said... pwnage of the year, thread of the year, etc. good stuff.

Not a good thing for the unpopular people, but a nice little ego boost for the winners in life.

People have been forgetting the Darwin awards, and Spider awards (the thread with the best (or worst) cliffhanger ending)

So let's see, would the following be ok:
Ownage of the year
Thread of the year
Most helpful member
Funniest thread
Darwin award
Spider award
?

I think with the above 'awards' it wouldn't be so much a popularity contest as a compilation of the most interesting aspects of the forums.
