WTF? Man, there's no shortage of opinions regarding the way Bush is handling the terrorist threat after the fact, but there MUST be some opinions of how this could have been averted. That's assuming our MidEast policy is to blame in the first place.

There's also plenty of bitching about the way Israel takes revenge after they're attacked. If we pulled our aid, they would be forced to negotiate, no? Or is it better for them to be able to talk peace from a position of strength?

Sorry for the bump, but this lack of response is flabbergasting!

There is no way terrorist acts could have been averted. The only method of attack poor countries have against the U.S. is terrorism. Thats why were bascically fighting a war, to show that terrorist acts will not be tolerated. That we will kill to preserve our way of life.

There is no good or bad side in this conflict. To me, both the israelis and palestinians are idiots, both terrorists.

Stupid palestinians blow themselves up killing a coupla israelis, then the israeli government goes and kills a bunch of civilians...its a never ending process...

<< In 14 months, more than 800 Palestinians, including 150 children, have been killed by the Israel Defense Forces, acting on the Government of Israel?s direct orders. More than 16,000 Palestinians have been seriously injured. This is comparable to 56,000 Americans being killed in one year and 1,600,000 seriously injured. Israel has lost 170, including 20 children, equivalent to 8,000 American being killed. >>

Wonderful statistic, aint it?

if the US ever hopes to try and make peace there (which I am more than sure it doesn't), it has to round up the scum on both sides. Sharon is no better than Arafat, they both deserve to sit next to each other in jail cells in the Hague, along with their respective gangs of thugs.
Will that ever happen? Of course not, they'll just keep killing each other and zealots on each side will continue flaming each other.

Where in the hell is the "America brought this on itself" gang? I can't believe they will not offer at least an opinion, if not solution to our foreign policy "mess". If it's wrong, what's wrong about it, and what should be done instead?

Also, is our policy regarding Israel what brought 9-11 down on us in the first place? Is it bigger than that? Spell it out! There's no shortage of blame America topics, but solutions sure are in short supply. I fuking hate people that run off at the mouth and offer no alternatives. :|

I finished reading the book "Janissaries" by Jerry Pournelle last night. It had some fascinating parallels with the Muslim/western cutlure conflict we're seeing now.

It boils down to this: when one culture prides itself on staying stagnant and not advancing, it will go to great lengths to keep others from progressing in technology and culture. FUNDAMENTALIST Islam is a religion of the past that prides itself on not evolving or changing. That's why it hates the west with so much passion.

Islam is a religion of the past that prides itself on not evolving or changing. That's why it hates the west with so much passion.

pure poopy . . . radical elements within religious groups always strive for some sacred perspective or era of practice (radical ultraorthodox Jews, radical fundamentalist Christians and Muslims). These people warp all aspects of society into a morass consistent with their contrived religious beliefs. In the process, they warp their religious beliefs into something that often has little resemblance to the principles of their faith. Radical faith groups often are high on radical and low on faith. The Pillars of Islam much like the Ten Commandments provide an outline for life that is difficult to disagree with in principle.

All religions are of the past unless you plan on starting a new one. Islam predates Christianity but Mohammed was the last prophet not unlike Mormon tradition of Judaism via Lehi, Jesus, followed by the first modern prophet Joseph Smith and some guy named Hinckley today no joke. Islam does not pride itself on not evolving or changing nor does the religion or the majority hate the west with passion. If you actually care about learning about Islam try asking a practicing Muslim 25 questions about Islam. I would no more trust or repeat the hate/ignorance spewed by Usama and his minions or Farrakahn than trust the misguided musings about world religions from Pat Robertson, Franklin Graham, the leadership of the Souther Baptist convention, or any imbecile who has limited experience outside their own religious traditions.

I've been in wonderful Buddhist temples, reformed Judaism synogogues, one of the largest Muslim temples in the world (Jakarta, across the street is a marvelous Catholic church), Souther Baptist churches, 1st Baptist churches, AME Zion, Pentecostal, Presbyterian, Lutheran, and Quaker churches . . . admittedly the Mormons are a little strange to me so I haven't gone to temple, yet. Only once have I heard hate from the pulpit . . . a Southern Baptist pastor in FL talking about how the Catholics killed Christ and the Jews were going to Hell. If you sample the world's religions you will probably find that the vast majority espouse love and fellowship with believers and non-believers but every barrel has its bad apples.

And what would you propose then?

People who are anti-US and anti-Israel, are no different from those who are anti-Arab.

Everyone needs to realize that the fault lies with both sides and if peace will ever be achived,it will need lots of compromises and sacrifices from both sides (or a huge war completely destroying one side -- the palestinians). Witht that said, I don't think there'll ever be peace there.

I will probably regret this but . . . MartyTheManiak has a pretty good point.

Good point, but off topic. The question is, why are we being terrorized? Is it for backing Israel? Is it really religion based at all?

I don't think there'll ever be peace there.

Should this be our concern?

I'd still like to know why the far left, loud mouths haven't piped up with their two cents yet! :disgust:
