Obviously i have an ATM card, and sometime in november i was about 30 miles away from home and i needed money so i stopped at an ATM at a bank i used to bank at. I figured they would give me a service charge, which they did of $1.50. I just looked at my bank statement, which says i took 26.50 out in that transaction (which is the amount of money i took out with the service charge) and then MY bank also has "Service Charges" of 1.50.

Do both banks charge you a service charge for using an ATM outside of your own banks'? Im just wondering why i got charged 1.50 twice. This is the only time i've ever used my card besides at my bank.

yes. you get charged by the bank who owns the atm, and you usually get charged by your own bank for using someone elses atm. they need to make billions of dollars off of you somehow!

yes....

you were charged $1.50 to take money from this bank... let's call it bank A
bank A then is down $25 dollars and takes it from your bank... bank B
with all these transactions... your bank... bank B charges you $1.50 for all the trouble

you got off easy with $3... sometimes when i'm hard up for cash with none of my bank atms around i get spanked with like $6 or $7 dollar fees

yeah its exactly like pyonir said, the atm's bank will charge you, and your bank will charge you for using a differnet bank.. it sucks, i know.

Yup. They get you twice. Once at the ATM and the second one from your bank, unless you go to one of their banks. I have a Bank Once card, so I search out MAC machines 'cuz that's what Bank One uses.

I have Fleet bank, which doesn't charge me to use other banks' ATM's. I thought there was supposed to be a law against that anyway? I understand the other banks charging a fee for use of their machines, but your bank charging you as well is utter BS.

speaking of which, watch the ATM's around amusement parks, stadiums, ect. I've seen some with as high as a $20 ATM fee.
