Has anybody out there been to AC? I'm thinking about going next week and I'm not sure where to stay. I'm looking for something nice, not great, but not a dump either, and affordable. Yeah that's a rather vague term, but I have no strict budget, i'd rather pay 200 for nice than 50 for crap. I really have no idea, but I loved the Trop in Vegas, so that's on my list. How does the one in AC compare to Vegas? It's about $150 for the night I want. I also checked out the Holiday Inn online, and it's only ~$50 for the night. But is it a dump like the one in Vegas, or is it just your standard, clean holiday inn? Any other opinions and suggestions are appreciated. thanks.

The Tropicana is okay..

Best two down there are Ceasars and The Showboat. I say try for the Showboat. They just renovated the place and its one fun casino.. awsome atmosphere and the likes.

AC is pretty much a dump.. unless you are on the strip (boardwalk) I wouldnt reccomend walking around anywhere.

I stayed at the Sands penthouse two yrs ago (for a mistake on their part) and it was awesome. But I think those rooms are not for everyone. The hotel was nice and the other rooms looked cool too. I'm not sure but I they're cheaper than the other hotels.

btw, don't stay at a motel in Atlantic city. those motels look like crap and the neighborhood sucks

He's right! It's a nasty, dirty city.

If you're not too attached to staying in the casinos or physically in AC, I can offer a suggestion--you might be able to find cheaper, but still nice places just outside AC in Absecon or Brigantine. I'm spend a lot of time on the island, and there are two beachfront hotels. I don't know how good or bad they are, but you can investigate if you choose:
La Samanna
Brigantine Tower (Ramada)

The Tower contains Time Shares so it may be pricey or may subject you to a lot of annoying sales pitch. You might also be able to track down a rental unit for a week, as well. Brigantine is a tiny island just off the AC Marina. It's like 10 min drive to Harrah's and Trump Marina, and Harrah's has a shuttle that takes you to Showboat on the boardwalk, from whence you can hike or take a rickshaw or jitney almost anywhere.

Also in Brigantine you'll find a gorgeous, deserted beach, and one of the nation's phattest public golf courses (expensive, though).

Also, there are non-casino hotels in AC that are also probably cheaper.
Or maybe get a comp?

Either way, have a good time and don't dirty my beach :)

Also some decent chain hotels on Black Horse Pike and White Horse Pike just outside AC, with free shuttle bus to the Strip. Hampton Inn is nice, right on Barnegat(?) Bay. Days Inn in Absecon is quite inexpensive, and some of the rooms have hot tubs.

Enjoy!! :)

AC is not that bad. I live about 40 mins from there. Go there a lot. There are plenty of hotels and places to stay. Just go down there during the day and check out a few joints. Not the smoking kind ;). You can find a place for no matter how much money you have. Man $100 a night can get you a very nice place I believe.
