Atlantic City

I had a previous thread on going to Vegas. Talked to my wife about it. It's to costly so we are not going. I appreciate everyone's help. I swear that I will go there sooner than later.

So, plan B. We live close enough to Atlantic City to drive there.

So, any recommendations on where to stay?
How to save money?
What are some good shows to go see?
package deals?
We'd stay 2 nights unless there are good deals if we were to stay 3 nights.

We'd probably have a very nice dinner one night atleast. But we won't be splurging on dinners.

I know nothing about Atlantic City.

This is all for our 10 year anniversary in July.

Thanks again.

Stay at the Borgata/Water Club or Harrahs. The hotels at the marina are newer and nicer than the boardwalk ones. Take a cab or the Jitney to the boardwalk during the day. Walk around, eat some boardwalk food, check out the various casinos, etc.

Edit: Duh, forgot about the new one that just opened up.. Its called Revel. Havent been myself but from what I hear its really nice and spacious, but the people and staff are "stuffy." Its a completely non smoking hotel casino.

As far as shows, they dont have recurring shows like Vegas, you just have to check whats on during the weekend you are going. You will probably be able to catch a good comedy show at one of the casinos.

Do you gamble? If so, book the room directly with the casino/hotel you plan on playing at, sign up for a players card and at the end of the trip use your comps to help pay for the room.

If you dont gamble, use the normal sites like Expedia/Hotels.com/priceline/etc to find the best rate.

Enjoy! Congrats on 10 years.

Stinks that there are no recurring shows. I'll have to go see what is going on during th weekend we are going there.

Thanks for the 10 years congrats everyone.

As for gambling, we might throw down $20 each day. Not much more. An expensive day would be $50. Probably no reason to get a comp card.

The only thing with hotels is that I want to be in one that is centrally located so we don't have to deal with cabs. I want to be able to walk everywhere.

the only place outside of a casino that u should walk is the boardwalk.
do not walk around the streets of atlantic city. the entire city is the projects.

thus get a hotel thats on the boardwalk so u can go from casino to casino.

edit:
if u dont plan on gambling much then skip AC. goto NYC. visit the casino in there then hit midtown for shows

You will need to stay on the boardwalk to see anything.

Marina will require cab

Staying over the weekend will be just as expensive as Vegas would be.

Example: in '04 a Days Inn was $125/night for weekend vs $35/night for the week day.
The Borgota (just opened up) was $175/night for low end and was full up by 6PM Fri eve.
Lucky I had connections via corporate parent to get into a low end at 0$.

i would skip it and save your money for a future trip. atlantic city is a dirty shithole for the most part. if you don't like to gamble and stay in casinos, there really is nothing to see there other than a dirty ass place. walk like a block or two away from the casinos inland and you get into some very shady places.

i'd go to nyc for a weekend over atlantic city any day, if you are looking to just get away for your anniversary. we went to nyc for our 1 year anniversary and had a blast.

congrats on the 10yrs! we're planning on going to the keys in september for our 5 year anniversary.

LV is such a much better experience all around, and there is probably more to do on a budget than in AC.

Agreed with this... there are a TON of things you can do for free or even cheap... alot of BOGO's or 2 for 1.... pretty wild

Where does the OP live? If he's near New England, he can get a lot of the "Vegas experience" from Foxwoods or Mohegan Sun in Connecticut. Both of those places are actually bigger than a lot of the Atlantic City casinos.

there's really nothing in AC outside of gambling/casinos, unless there's a comedian/musician you like who happens to be doing a show there some weekend.

that said, if you're interested in staying at a nice hotel and maybe doing a little gambling (but spending most of your time in your room or at the pool), Revel is great for that.

if you want a decent place to crash in-between gambling binges, Borgata or Harrahs.

Gambling is a parasitic enterprise that thrives on the weaknesses of people. It leaves in its wake corruption, debasement, despair, and the subversion of moral authority.

i'm all in!
