Division games aren't part of the "meat of their schedule"? They've got 4 tough games on the schedule left - Giants, Steelers, Ravens, and Eagles. Based on the first two weeks of the season, there really isn't any reason the Falcons shouldn't be the leading contender for the NFC South title and a playoff berth. If they beat the Saints on MNF next week, they'll have a big lead.

BTW, Vick is 20 of 37 (54%) in the first two games. Solid but not spectacular.
They have much more than 4 tough games left.
Giants, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Washington, Dallas, Carolina and Philadelphia are all tough games.

I'm not impressed with Washington, Dallas, or Carolina at this point. Cincy could be tough but I don't think as tough as the Giants, Steelers, Ravens, and Eagles.

Have you seen Washington lately? I'm a fan, and it ain't pretty. Mark Brunell is making Michael Vick look like Peyton Manning. If Brunell remains the starter, they're in for an ugly year.

Even if they make it, Atlanta will not go very deep in the playoffs. At some point they'll need Vick's arm to win and he can't hit the side of a barn from the inside.

What are you basing this off of? I watched every snap of the Falcons so far & Vick is a much better passer this year than last. His decision making, throwing mechanics, and managing the game is much improved. He hasn't had to pass the ball much because Atlanta is basically picking up 8 yards per rush. He's also avoiding a lot of hits as well. Falcons running game is just sick (252 & 306, most rushing yards ever given up by the Panthers & Bucs), that option is only a dual threat (Dunn in the inside or Vick running outside depending on how the defense reacts) & the Bucs couldn't stop it. The Falcons are going to expound on this as the season progresses (only have 2 looks now, but should have about 20 by the end of the season). The defensive line looks great with JACK (grady Jackson, john Abraham, rod Coleman, and partrick Kerney). Abraham was unstoppable in the preseason and looked great against the Panthers, he should be ready for the Saints game on Monday Night. Ed Hartwell should be back for the Monday Night game as well after missing both games. The Falcons couldn't stop the run last season but Chris Crocker & Lawyer Milloy at safety has greatly rectified the problem (Grady Jackson helping the most). Barring injury, and as the offense expands and defense gels I think the Falcons are a major contender in the NFC.

That's a good joke. Once the Falcans play a team with an average QB, they will get hammered back to reality. You run for 300+ yards and can only get 2 TDs. The Bucs had every chance and should have beat the Falcans. Idiot Simms decides he should throw into triple coverage in the endzone, only for the Birds to get some flike INT, or have 2 guys wide open in the endzone and throw it 10 yards over their heads.

2 TDs, you noticed our kicker missed 4 FG's? That's 26 right there if hit them. Not to mention the playcalling was real conservative in the redzone on our part. Bucs had every chance & should have beat the Falcons? What game were you watching? Every pundit watching the game said the Bucs got dominated. Hell, even the Bucs fans on the Bucs message board admitted as much. Chris Simms sucks but we made Jake Delhomme look silly as well. The only time the Bucs had any type of success was when they went to the 2 minute offense & we were playing that soft coverage, prevent defense stuff.

2 of those misses were because they were blocked. The Bucs kicker missed 2 and they had a TD called back. I guess you missed the 2 INTs the Falcons had in the endzone and the wideopen Ike Hillard Simms missed.

Koenen has a low trajectory on his kicks, before this season he only kicked 50+ yarders. The 2 INTs in the endzone, one was a hailmary pass that Simms just threw up into double coverage. The other was a tipped ball from the 10 yard line on 3rd down. A TD called back but an Ashley Lelie pass interference call at the 3 yard line wasn't called as well.

It was tipped off the back of the guy's foot as the goal line. Don't try the missed calls crap. ATL got plenty of calls.

The point being is that the Bucs were in it most of the game and it wasn't the domination as some seem to think.

If you watched the game, it was domination. The Bucs couldn't move the ball against a defense that was missing both of their starting defensive ends and the Bucs D couldn't contain the Falcon's running game. The only thing that kept the game close was the Falcons making mistakes (kicker).

That may be, but those are still tough games and certainly not sure wins.

Never said they were sure wins. Just pointing out that with a two (possible three after Monday Night)) game lead in the division, the Falcons chances of winning the NFC South and making the playoffs are pretty good right now.

Don't start the injuried players crap. Bucs had a starting CB out, and the starting RG out. So I guess Simms not hitting a WIDE OPEN Ike Hillard in the endzone not a mistake? Is throwing into triple coverage in the endzone not a mistake?

So it is confirmed then. The Bucs suck.

All that running earned them 14 points. A team without a turnover machine at QB will have no problems with the Falcans.

Don't try the miss calls crap? ATL got plenty of calls just like TB did. The refs missed calls on ATL just liked they did on TB. If you want to go back hindsight and say a TD was taken away on a call, why can't I? I don't think the game was even close.

"For a second straight week, the Falcons on Sunday demolished a division rival that had been to the playoffs in 2005, this time whipping the defending NFC South champion Tampa Bay Bucs in what might have been the most one-sided 14-3 victory in recent NFL history." - Len Pasquerelli ESPN.com http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/story?columnist=pasquarelli_len&id=2591874

Dude, just look at the stats of the game...If the falcons really wanted to destroy the bucs they would have went for it on 4th and 1 and 4th and 2. Don't try to tell me they wouldn't have made both of those and scored TDs...Face it, over 300 rushing yards your bucs got OWNED and looked like garbage

Dunn has always been able to get his yards. But statistics show, that during his time in Atlanta, touchdowns haven't came in the same numbers as his yards.

If Vick keeps running like he has been.. all its going to take is one smack down pop from Ray Lewis, Roy Williams or any other hard hitter, and Vick will be down like a lil 6itch...

I'll bump this thread back up at the end of the season once Atlanta has flopped.
It definately should be entertaining. :)

Might as well add New Orleans to that list of tough games as well. They'll play them one more time :)

Wonder where all that running and jiving was Monday night? ;) I guess that $hit doesn't work against a decent opponent, but who knows right?

:p I also previously said that defenses were going to start scheming to stop that spread option wrinkle and that Atlanta was going to have to be prepared. Obviously, they weren't.

Truthfully, I thought Atlanta should have won the game right up until the point I saw the the SuperDome just prior to kickoff. When I saw all the emotion and the energy in the building, I immediately thought the Falcons were walking into a trap game...and I was right. It was one of those games where nothing was going to go their way - blocked punt, blocked field goal, Crumpler dropping a TD, WRs not getting open and making catches, Vick not being accurate at times, line not blocking, etc. It was just like a snowball effect that went on through the entire game.

Now the question is, can the Falcons recover from this? And, can the Saints continue to ride this emotion for the rest of the season?

Hey D22.. how are those Falcons doing?

Toilet Bowl bound maybe? Keep dreaming of the Super Bowl

Atlanta will not make the playoffs - mark that one down. San Francisco has a better chance of making the playoffs than Atlanta does.

I see a minimum of 3 more losses coming from Atlanta's remaining schedule; with the possibility of another one. Atlanta will be fighting in competition with Tampa Bay to NOT be in last place in the division. Carolina finally is emerging as the front runner for the weak NFC South division title.

Their chances pretty much hinge on the Saints game this weekend. If they win, they still have a shot at the playoffs and possibly the division title. If they lose, stick a fork in them.
