I was in and out of Ketosis for long periods of time. I ended up burning a lot of stuff including muscle but never vomited.

However, as I recall it, Ketosis puts a lot of pressure on a certain organ in your body as it switches from burning glycogen to somethingiforget. Some people's organs can't handle that included responsibility which could be why your body decided to evacuate the premises.

This is why a lot of people have sort of like a testing phase. Your testing phase was more like a college hazing.

Not that it matters much, but I had a lot of turkey and chicken when I was on Atkins. Nothing but Steak and Eggs sounds gross....

I gotta say my version of the atkins diet is working wonders for me, I started at 210 in the second week of march, I'm now 170lbs, I'm a 6'1 21yr old male. 15lbs more and I can start my bulking phase, I should be able to lose 15lbs more by august, maybe even before that.

I don't eat bread, I don't really eat fruit, I eat a lot of veggies, eggs, and meat.
I actually eat some carbs, I eat a small bowl of cereal with some milk in the morning, I eat this so I can get some fibre in my diet. Then throughout the day I eat eggs, chicken, fish, vegetables, once in a while ill eat an apple. That's basically it, I count my calories and make sure I'm within range. I drink plenty of tea (green, ginger, st.johns wort etc...) with no sugar. I also find black coffee with no sugar really helps suppress hunger.

All this actually helped me to realize how much I was actually eating before. I would eat until I was full, as soon as I was hungry again I would eat until I was full again. I'd eat tons of carbs, lots of bread, and chips, and coke, and outdoor food. I never knew how to tell my self to stop, I would fill up on garbage all day long. Now all I drink is tea, water, and black coffee, and eat healthy. I use to eat HUNDREDS of grams of carbs a day, now I eat about 40g-50g a day. My body is thanking me for this, I just cant wait until I'm able to really buck up and put on some nice muscle, I mean that is why I decided to lose weight in the first place.

Why not bulk up now. Turn the fat into muscle. Thats how I am starting mine off. I workout every day now lifting 90lbs (all I can do) 10 times = 1 rep for me 10 reps a day ish

Just to help you with the lingo:

rep (repitition) = one exercise motion: 1 bench press (down and up), etc.

set = how many reps you do before resting.

So you're doing sets of 10 reps, and approximately 10 total sets in a day.

There are numerous studies on how this is physically impossible. You can lose fat and gain muscle, but you can't convert one to the other.

I never had problems on Atkins except for the fact its a real tough menu. Too easy to cheat then you gotta start all over again.
But its the only thing that worked.

I use to get so depressed when I cheated and had to start all over. I can get back in Ketosis in about three days with lots of exercise. Now I dont feel so bad about cheating every now and then, I just know I gotta do a little hard work to get things back in order.

Turn fat into muscle? LOL
Its not that far fetched especially if you dont know. It makes sense burning off fat as you add mustle. so I was wrong about something no reason to make fun of it. Unless your the type of person to put everyone else down to make themselves look and feel better.

Yes you should work out while losing fat as a form of resistance training to prevent losing muscle weight. But it's not as simple as turning fat into muscles. That just doesn't happen.

I want to start off with stating this is not the atkins diets faughlt. It was mine for not reading up on the proper way to do the atkins diet. From this story if anyone ever tries the atkins diet make sure you read up on it before you try it. See I thought the atkins diet was all protein/fat and 0 carbs.

So for 3 days straight I ate nothing but eggs and ribeye steak and all protein and fat products. On the third day I started to feel really nauseous. I ended up vomiting multi times. Im talking time after time. See the body without any carbs goes into ketosis. See you should go into a little bit of ketosis but sever ketosis is very bad as i found out. I couldnt even walk without getting completely nausas to my stomach. Even the thought of eating another steak got me sick to my stomach. Im now on the third day off t he diet and I am still a bit of nauseous. I cant do anything workout related because anytime I get my blood pumping I get super sick.

So this is my story of the atkins diet. Like I said its not the diets fault it is completely mine because I believed rumors about the diet instead of actually reading up on it. So if anyone ever tries the atkins diet make sure you do all your homework first before trying it. If you dont you will regret it in the long run. I will say besides the nasua the diet really did work. I droped 5 lbs in 2.5 days. It was all water weight (because thats the way the diet starts)

I dont see how people can survive on jerked meat (100 years ago). People got almost no carbs in back then they should have been super sick to there stomach. Maybe they were just used to it. I mean having almost no carbs in to begin with there body may have already been used to it.

I know some people are going to call me an idiot but I thought it was neccessary for me to tell this short story because I dont want anyone else to go through what I just went through. Its worse then having a sever flu. At this point its irritating because its been 3 days and my body still hasnt gotten back to normal. I still get waves of nausua.

Ya, you did not read the Atkins book. He (ironically) discusses 100 years ago. 100 years ago, 100 grams of carbs was normal,, not zero. Think about fruit (sugars), vegetables (liek potatoes). Come processed foods and snacks. Today, 300 grams of carbs is average. That's why the US is full of fat people.

The whole point of atkins is to get to your target weight then manage carb intake. Once you get to your target, you are supposed to take in about 70-80 grams of carbs. If you gain a little wait, drop your intake a bit. Everyone has their own balance.

To get into Ketosis, you need to take in less than 10 grams of carbs a day, not zero. I think you have to do this for 6 weeks. Then you up it to like 20 grams I think. I forget. READ THE BOOK.

In short, you need a multi-vitamin and B-12 supplement. I don't do atkins 100%. I take the supplements and take in maybe 30 grams of carbs a day and it works so long as you exercise. Eat less, don't eat crap. That's the whole secret.

That was the same recommendation that everyone at atkins forums stated. get the book read it and go from there. Dont try and do it on your own you will just make mistakes like I did and end up very sorry for it.

One of the first things that hte book states is that you will not start your diet till like being half way through the book. Then you start. And you keep reading. By the time you finish, you'll be ready for the next step of the process.

YOU NEED TO READ HALF OF THE BOOK JSUT TO START - UIpper cased jsut to stress this. It's also a godo test of people that are anti-Atkins.

Im only 23lbs overweight. for my height. 177 compared to 200. 23lbs isnt that much if you think about it. about 2 months of straight working out and eating right should put me back to normal. Which I am going to restart my diet tommarow. The waves of nasua are almost all gone now so I can get back on my normal diet and loose the weight again.

If you do weight training like I do (to build muscle mass), you might not loose as much weight as you are expecting. But you will thin down. I started at 226 with a goal of 200. The better goal is to look at your waist size and drop that 4"+ inches. I started at 38" in Jan. Got to like 34" in March. Cheated for two month and went up to a snug 36". And I am now back in the game. I don't care what I weigh so long as I can get to a 32"-34" waist. of course, I don't want to be fat but depending on everything you are doing, weight is only a goal if hte over-all plan makes it a logical target. If you are only doing cardio, weight is a good measure.

I dont agree vegetables suck except corn, cauliflower, broccoli

That one is OK. It is low carb. Corn is not carb friendly. Not sure about Cauliflower.

Generalization: Green vegetables are good.

I started a low carb/high protein cooking thread. Go check it out. Someone does pizza!

I am on a similar program. Remember to give your body a day off here and there for recovery. Age sucks though. I'm 35 and IA am in denial about the fact that I think I should be taking more recovery time than I used to. Had a 1-2-1-2-1-2-rest repeat plan. Might have to change to 1-2-rest repeat. It sucks.

When I quit in March for a while I was shocked. I acutally lost like 7 pounds doing nothing and not eating well. Not eating bad either. But all that exercise taught my body to burn fat I think so that it had the energy it needed to run/lift daily. When I took a break, my body kept burning.
