I want to start off with stating this is not the atkins diets faughlt. It was mine for not reading up on the proper way to do the atkins diet. From this story if anyone ever tries the atkins diet make sure you read up on it before you try it. See I thought the atkins diet was all protein/fat and 0 carbs.

So for 3 days straight I ate nothing but eggs and ribeye steak and all protein and fat products. On the third day I started to feel really nauseous. I ended up vomiting multi times. Im talking time after time. See the body without any carbs goes into ketosis. See you should go into a little bit of ketosis but sever ketosis is very bad as i found out. I couldnt even walk without getting completely nausas to my stomach. Even the thought of eating another steak got me sick to my stomach. Im now on the third day off t he diet and I am still a bit of nauseous. I cant do anything workout related because anytime I get my blood pumping I get super sick.

So this is my story of the atkins diet. Like I said its not the diets fault it is completely mine because I believed rumors about the diet instead of actually reading up on it. So if anyone ever tries the atkins diet make sure you do all your homework first before trying it. If you dont you will regret it in the long run. I will say besides the nasua the diet really did work. I droped 5 lbs in 2.5 days. It was all water weight (because thats the way the diet starts)

I dont see how people can survive on jerked meat (100 years ago). People got almost no carbs in back then they should have been super sick to there stomach. Maybe they were just used to it. I mean having almost no carbs in to begin with there body may have already been used to it.

I know some people are going to call me an idiot but I thought it was neccessary for me to tell this short story because I dont want anyone else to go through what I just went through. Its worse then having a sever flu. At this point its irritating because its been 3 days and my body still hasnt gotten back to normal. I still get waves of nausua.

What did a typical meal look like for you? I mean when you say you ate eggs, ribeyes, protein, and fat products? I honestly don't know much about the Atkins, and my knowledge about it is as much as your's was prior to you reading up on it. I just play it by ear.

I've been needing to get on a diet for quite some time now just because I've gained so much weight, and if it took 3 days for you to lose 5 lbs even though it was water, I can imagine it being relatively successful.

Can anyone/you divulge more info about the Atkins diet?

Go to
http://www.atkins.com/Program/ProgramOverview.aspx
They have all the phases of atkins diet. also use the forums they have alot of people on there that can help you. There the ones that taught me all the wrong things I was doing. If you do it make sure you do it the right way or else you will be sorry. Be prepared for a little bit of nausua from the ketosis. If you do it right you will only get a little nausuas for 2-3 days. They say its like having the flu people say.

also go to
http://www.atkins.com/Program/Phase1/HowtoDoInductionRight.aspx

be prepared to pee alot. I mean a real lot. Like every 20 mins.

In the first 2 weeks you will loose 10-15lbs. If not more. If you do it right hopefully you wont get sick like I did

Meals looked like (mind you I did it the wrong way)
a. Eggs with cheese on it.
b. Ribeye steak for lunch
c. Chicken or steak for supper. No potatos and this is where I kept messing up I kept skipping the veg. You have to get your 20g of carbs a day from veg. They have a complete list on the sight I listed up above.
d. Steak for a snack.
e. You can get splenda for sugar suppliment since it has 0 carbs but you needs to only take a little bit every day. They have all the info above in the sight listed above.

Yeah...Atkins is a LOW carb, not ZERO carb, diet.

if it took 3 days for you to lose 5 lbs even though it was water, I can imagine it being relatively successful.

Uh...no. Your body has that much water for good reasons. Heck, your body can get rid of that much in a day. As soon as you return to any kind of sane, healthy diet, the water weight will come right back. He lost that much water for a couple of reasons: 1) the Atkins diet produces a lot of waste products that you have to excrete through the kidneys, i.e. urination, and there's so much to get rid of, there's a diuretic effect (it's important to drink enough water to allow your body to continue to excrete these wastes, too, and not get dehydrated); 2) he depleted his glycogen stores (how your body stores glucose) in the body, which releases water.

You're not doing your kidneys any favors by forcing them to work overtime.

I don't recommend the diet, but anyone wanting to do Atkins: follow the poor guy's advice and read up on it, and please do not associate water weight loss with successful weight loss.

I never had problems on Atkins except for the fact its a real tough menu. Too easy to cheat then you gotta start all over again.
But its the only thing that worked.

You really need to read the book cuz theres a lot of people that think they know what the diet is and they really dont. Then they talk shit about it and never bother to learn the proper way cuz they think its not important.

You can pick up a used copy from Amazon for 3 dollars. I'm not suggesting you start it, but at least be familiar. And dont rely on people here for info because they routinely get it wrong.
Not the least of which is the "all fat and meat" part. Thats a lie.
You can be a vegetarian and still do the Atkins diet.

That was the same recommendation that everyone at atkins forums stated. get the book read it and go from there. Dont try and do it on your own you will just make mistakes like I did and end up very sorry for it.

If you just randomly started eating protein/fat and zero carb, you weren't on Atkins.

I'm diabetic and eat ultra-low carb, under 50/day - which works to keep my blood sugar low and steady. I'm not on Atkins either - but I'm a lot closer than you were :) .

I've never lost any weight on low-carb but I'm not overweight to begin with, and I'm on insulin, which affects that. Most people do, many people find it quite effective.

The body definitely needs to transition from carb to low-carb - there are ways to get there that aren't so uncomfortable :) .

Have fun, do some research, stay healthy and good luck with your weight loss.

In the first 2 weeks you are allowed up to 20 carbs per day...so factor that in when you plan your meals and snacks. A pack of peanuts has like 6grams. A slice of cheese and some sandwich meat has a couple or three.

However, you shouldnt need any, your body was made to work in ketosis because early man was not exposed to sugary foods year round and relied on meat and nuts. When they did get ahold of fruits, they didnt have the same makeup as current fruits did in terms of sugar.

It take me about 3 full days to get into ketosis, and i do notice a bit of weakness, but i understand why it is happening so i dont panic, and it does pass.

What you need to double down on is your water intake. Also make damn sure you're on a multivitamin since you're not getting alot of that anymore. The water will help keep the headaches at bay, joints lubed up, and minimize constipation. I do feel blocked and can go a couple days without doing number 2.

I honestly think your sickness was due more to hydration or vitamin than anything else. We're only talking 3 days here...you can go with zero food for that long FFS and still survive as long as you drink plenty water.

Im not on akins but i do try to do low low carbs.. i cut out bread but i still munch on crackers sometimes.. eat alot of carrots, cottage cheese non fat fish fish fish chicken steak and hard boil eggs.. Sometimes i eat shredded wheat tho (which has tons of carbs) ((i have like 20 boxes i used to eat it every day for breakfast LOVE IT) now its non-fat yogurt with honey blueberrys and bannanas for breakfast or non-fat cottage cheese and same..

Im wondering how healthy it is for me to be eating so much non-fat cottage cheese.. I buy like 25$ of it a week (like 12 tubs at walmart)

im down to 199-202 usually, doing strong lifts with some extras at the end since strong lifts seems to be not enough.. (3 sets of 3 jeez tahts like 30 mins tops)

Drink tons and tons of crystal lite, anyone have recommendations for my diet let me know.. i do every other day tuna fish and salmon. since tunafish is pure mercury

Crackers are carbs
carrots are carbs
cottage cheese is relatively low carb, don't get the low-fat or fat-free stuff
how do you cook your fish/chicken/steak/eggs?
(i love shredded wheat too, miss it a lot)
non-fat yogurt has carbs, avoid it, read labels for carb counts
honey is sugar: carbs
blueberries are reasonably low-carb
bananas have carbs

crystal lite in moderation is probably fine, though some people have trouble with it. watch out, some flavors have carbs

tuna fish isn't PURE mercury :) but it's good to limit it.

I notice a distinct lack of low-carb veggies?

I'm on my own version of the atkins diet, over the past 3 months I've lost 35lbs, I don't follow anything too strict I just know what to eat and when to eat it. I'm more cautious about what I eat.

I def wasnt dehydrated. I drink. 3 24oz bottles of water a day. I fill up cola bottles to know how much intake I have coming in.

No, people weren't just used to it. Our bodies were EVOLVED this way. Your body just happens to be pretty damn screwed up and overweight.

Im only 23lbs overweight. for my height. 177 compared to 200. 23lbs isnt that much if you think about it. about 2 months of straight working out and eating right should put me back to normal. Which I am going to restart my diet tommarow. The waves of nasua are almost all gone now so I can get back on my normal diet and loose the weight again.

you probably went from 200g of carbs a day to 0. what did you think would happen?

I didnt know about ketosis when I did it. I figured by now my body would be back to normal. Ive been carbo loading trying to get rid of the nausua but nothing works it sucks. I plan on going on a low carb diet after this is all over. I need to loose at least 28lbs Then I will be happy and I can set an even lower goal. 28 lbs would put me at my exact normal bmi. 177lbs. Then I can go from there and work to be healthy again. I Want back on my low calorie diet asap so I can go back to loosing the weight.
